Hold The Thing: A Lesson in Airsoft Mechanics

Postby Junto » Fri Aug 01, 2014 1:20 am

Date: August 24th, 2014
Time: Game On at 10 am. Game over at 4pm. There will be a lunch break between phases.
Location: Camp R&R
61635 NW Agaard Rd
Gales Creek, Oregon 97117

Age Limit: 12+
Event Cost: $15

Velocity Limits: Standard AP limits. No DMR rules.
AEG: 400 fps maximum
Bolt Action: 550 maximum

Death Rags required.
Camp R&R is a BIO AMMO ONLY FIELD.
K&M Airsoft Rentals will be on site. Not having a gun is no longer an excuse not to play. :)

You will need
And the
We will have copies on site.

Premise:
This will be a breakdown of your standard force-on-force airsoft OP/scenario game. Teams are "The Guys" (camo uniforms) and "The Other Guys" (solid colors and civilian wear). We will be using red and blue arm bands to give added distinction to each team. You will be fighting over The Thing. What is The Thing, you ask? It'll be an object in a strategic area of the field. You'll look at it and go "What is that thing?" That's The Thing. In other games it would be a capture point representing tactical assets, like an airfield, or a weapons dump/fuel depot.

To capture The Thing, you will need The Plot Device, which will be introduced to everyone before the game. You will bring The Plot Device directly to The Thing to capture it and you must use two people to move it. Capturing The Thing using The Plot Device earns your team points. After capture, admins will move The Plot Device to another location on the field, where you will fight for it for another chance to Hold The Thing.

To earn additional points for your team, you may dress up like an action hero or villain from a game or movie for the event. We encourage you to be creative.

You may also capture The McGuffin and return it to the admin near your spawn point. It's an important doodad, representing extra objective objects like uranium, or stealth bomber plans. This will net you one quarter of the points you would get for Holding The Thing. As with The Plot Device, everyone will be shown The McGuffin before gameplay begins.

An explanation of a McGuffin:

Game will have two rounds; a long round and a short round. Whoever has the most points at the end of each round wins that round. Points will be totaled for the day to determine the ultimate winners.

Rules:

All standard Airsoft Pacific and all standard Camp R&R rules and velocity limits apply.
No vicious arguments.
No Physical Altercations. This game is lighthearted and I'd like it to stay that way.

Rosters:

The Guys: Camo Pattern (any)
The Other Guys: Solid colors and civilian wear (No patterned jackets, hats, or gear)

Schedule:
0800 - Field Opens – Turn in waivers, Show ID if you have them, pay fee and have your ammo checked at the snack shack
0800 - Registration / Chrono Opens
0900 - Registration / Chrono Closes
0930 - Safety Meeting
1000 - Game Starts
1230 - Lunch Break
1330 – Resume Game Play
1600 - Game Ends

We hope to see you out there! DRAT is excited to be hosting something after so long. Our deepest thanks to the Camp R&R Staff for giving us a perfect window to host this event.

It's weird that so few people don't post in event threads anymore. I know I'll see some of you out there tomorrow, though! DRAT has been building props and getting things in order for the last few weeks. Hope to see more of you out there for the fun!

DRAT was incredibly pleased with everyone that came out today. I heard shooting almost nonstop from start to finish and it seemed like the action was pretty easy to find and get in on. Seemed like people understood the premise and were able to run with it, too, which was the major thing I was worried about. We're going to be refining the gameplay, if anyone has suggestions. We'll certainly be hosting another.

Thanks for coming to our weird game!

I was a bit worried when we arrived Sunday at 0800 ... but my fear was quickly put aside as a few more cars started rolling in. The game was a lot better than I had expected and the format was perfect for the smaller teams.

The Admin's were on top of redeploying the objective as soon as one team achieved it ... this kept the game moving at a fast pace.

You guys did a great job on the chrono .. one suggestion is spending more time on the safety briefing, I'm sure Stubby has some note cards you could copy.

Looking forward to the next one ...

thanks for the input.

DRAT prides itself on doing its best to bringing the community games it wants to play, and events that are to be remembered!
