there is an Island, http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=48.756868,-122.897358&spn=0.032649,0.084543&t=h&z=14&vpsrc=6
this Island is Sucia Island. I've been there and pondered many times the possibility of a large OP.

My question is regarding the legality/ practicality of doing such an OP.

this is gonna be a casual discussion, hopefully continuing until it is dead.

it might die with the entire "state park" thing... but I really don't care.

It could be awesome if you could incorporate aircraft/watercraft, but I see the game turning into a massive cluster frak here:

I can see that as well. OP would be awesome, but I foresee many monies being spent..

You'd need a lot of watercraft, but it could go well. Never really know until you try.

Ask about it.

Logistics. How far is it travel in time and money for people to get there? How about the logistics of medical aide?

How consistent is the weather?

If this is a "big OP" then how is it going to be funded? What do you expect to charge people for this?

Before you can even think of the mission briefing (because it's the least important part of milsim or any event planning), you have to look at logistics (how to get things and people to and from there), liability (insurance costs, medical and personal risks) and costs (costs for materials, overheads, your plan if you have too many or not enough people and what you expect people to pay for this game).

I see how logistics are an issue. this island is (from Bellingham) a good two to three hours out and only accessed by boat (no ferry) the weather is going to be pretty regularly rainy/ overcast. you won't get giant amounts of sun.
the logistics of medical aid: pretty far out. it would be difficult at best to get help if there was a serious injury.
Funding: haven't thought of it yet, the amount to charge someone for something would be hard to guess, due to the cost of fuel/food prices vs player willingness
Insurance is hard to guess as well.

maybe I could talk to John Lu... I hear what he touches turns to gold... (pie in the sky hopes)

" I see the game turning into a massive cluster frak here: "

SUPER FACT!!! I've thought the same thing as well. I guess it would hinge on the amount of boats willing to transport troops behind enemy lines... and on who would be willing to go for a swim...

Is it just me or does that look like Wake Island? It would be great for a WW2 Pacific Reenactment!

Honestly, if you had a Jeep or some other 4x4 that had quasi-trained people in it, along with some basic medical supplies (My dad, ex-EMT and ex-MP) you could have a good way to get people to the boat dock and back to the mainland. The 4x4 would simply be non marked, and patrol along the beach. Now the question is getting it there...

Or better yet, get a boat...

Get some authorities on hand and let them deal with it.

the nearest USCG is in Bellingham.

and two hours of pain is enough to think about the practicality of eyepro.
