Battle of the Bulge? (sitting in freezing trenches and getting shelled)
Battle of Stalengrad? (send wave after wave of men into German guns, wait for winter to freeze the germans)
The Finnland Winter War? (Finns race around on skiis killing Russians)

I was thinking more of Stalingrad. Only it would be the early stages of it. Soviets set up their defense and dig in and wait for the German offensive. Does that sound like it would work?

Its your thing, I'm simply challenging you to think it through in greater detail.

In college we played airsoft a lot in the snow. It was good times, but presented interesting new challenges.

Could you perhaps pass on your knowledge of snow combat?

It's cold, hop-ups suck and batteries die quicker.

I know that.
I just wanted to see if he knows something I don't know. I've done backyard plinking in the snow and we did things our way. We dug trenches and built forts and spend days preparing the field before we go out. But maybe that's not how it goes out here and I just thought I'd see if that's cool or if we put too much effort into it...

Oh yeah, with all of the old school Tokyo Maruis right? ;)

The first problem I see with a WW2 game is the fact that not many people have WW2 gear. Maybe if you followed the same idea and "theme", but made it based off of a modern period. The second problem I see is that going up into the mountains and playing on an undisclosed "field" will probably be bad news in terms of regulations and safety. This might actually get somewhere though...

That's all well and good in your back yard, but people have to drive to these events, that can create a logistics problem. If everyone were a great snow driver, it wouldn't be a problem - but somebody always gets stuck or runs into something.

i have yet to see a WWII themed game where mostly everyone runs the M1 grand and K98, if everyone is going to run full auto with Thompson, M3s and MP40s you might as well let people use M4s and AKs

Wasn't much of a wipe out. We hit a reflector.

Hushpuppy, this may be of some interest to you regarding winter mountain airsoft. This is stuff from the CAG winter mountain training and the winter recon last year.

There is planning for a winter mountain training this year, but it is still in the process of being developed.

There's a lot more than I care to fit into one post. The main thing is keeping warm and dry. Layer up correctly, wear GOOD waterproof boots, eat snacks and drink water constantly.

Base layer: underarmor type material, wool socks
Mid layer: insulating layer, wool or some kind of high tech REI shit
Shell layer: waterproof layer. Get some cheap milsurp waterproof stuff and you'll be good to go

One a side note, don't layer up like hell then forget your head. If you're wearing a wet baseball cap you'll lose plenty of heat through your head. Get a waterproof hat or wear a helmet.

Weapons:
Like Kevin said, your batteries drain quicker, GBBs don't work right, and your hop up sucks.

Anyways thats the basics.
