Metal 6mm BB's / Oregon Legality / AP Legality

Postby Miker1st » Sun Jun 16, 2013 4:36 pm

So, I was playing a game the other day with a backyard enthusiast (No, literally, he likes to play in City Parks, but I'll be damned if I ever let him drag me into one at a city park) who was using metal .30g for his L96. I didn't find this out until after we finished the game.
Doesn't that invalidate the fact that it's a "toy" gun if it's shooting a metal projectile?

On a side note, he's gotten better about safety and not playing where civilians could get hurt. Still need an actual airsoft field we can use here in the Linn-Benton area.

I would say that yes it does invalidate the "toy" part of airsoft, it really makes it more a bb gun rather than an airsoft gun. Also try to get him out of city parks, they usually always end in trouble. And no they are not AP legal.

it's not about whats being fired. It's the combustion of what is propelling it.

Firearms -> generally gunpowder / explosive powder

BB / Pellet / Airsoft -> air pressure

I've used metal bb's in the past. They are no more dangerous than the plastic bb's. Velocity of projectile, Weight of projectile & size of object aka energy are the contributing factors that make it unsafe. It's composition like plastic, metal, glass aka hardness do not.

To fire at skin would provide same results with the various compositions using the size/weight object.

To fire at hard object would produce different results since the absorption of energy is different than skin.

Playing in city parks is a very stupid and a good way to get arrested, fined or shot. If you are part of a film crew I hear you can play in state parks though ;-)
