So, HSP (huge indoor arena in cali) just banned HPA's for the same exact shit I've been bitching about, it's sparking controversy here and there. So it's not exactly an isolated incident. Here's the vid that inspired the ban.

Is it the gun or the player himself?

Both totally. The team is now widely regarded as douchebags with a very toxic track record. But the guns are just easy tooled to be douchebag status by wayward souls. It's like DMR's that have to be mechanically locked in semi; it's just a temptation that's just strong at times.

Not if you know what trigger discipline is, don't overshoot and shoot your HPA too hot after chrono. Play by the rules and have some class and sportsmanship, really. Not difficult.

How does paintball enforce its tournament locks?

The concept is the same. Except paintball does not have AEGs to fall back on...... So they make HPA work.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but whatever you say man.

It's not just singling you out, it's everyone that uses HPA and specifically those less mature and are enabled by HPA's to be able to be far more toxic in a far more dramatic and frankly dangerous level. It only takes a few assholes to mess all kinds of shit up.

As I see it, It's only a matter of time one of those events gets taken too far and something stupid happens like an angry parent sues an event host because little Timmy has a new shitty 6mm thick snake scar down the side of his neck from some tool tuning his HPA to 500+ FPS and riping off a 40 BB volley in two seconds from 15 feet away. That could seriously shazaam with this hobby and the community as a whole and I'd rather get ahead of that.

ICS M4 (split gear box)
480 FPS
1000+ RPM

https://youtu.be/0T7g2J04avE

I guess I don’t really see much difference here. A player could just as easily cheat the system with a split gear box design as they could with a HPA rig. And in both examples people can get seriously hurt. And people just circumvent chrono stations entirely as well with two guns and some colored zip ties.

As drpepper475 states it’s ultimately up to the individuals honor. I would say that banning cheaters and not specific Airsoft systems is the way to go. Because you don’t need a HPA rig to majorly screw up Timmy. And I’ve seen windows get shot out at a healthy distance at Camp Comia in Cheney as well back in the day.

Those incidents need to be spot chrono’d without the player being allowed to fiddle with his gun. If they are found seriously offending? Swing the ban hammer.

Nothing in that video makes me hate an HPA rig. I have encountered players that had their AEGs tuned to run that fast easily. Remember when lipo batteries came out? I started playing this game when 7.6v NIMH batteries where normal, and pistols took duster gas hfc 134a.

I understand your concerns and they are warranted. But HSP had better look at its own internal policies. The overshooting in that video was criminal. It reminded me of why I left paintball in the 90’s...... And a .68 cal paintball weighs 3 grams EACH. Overshooting in speedball was rampant and I would come home looking like I had been jumped in a alley somewhere. Here again refs played favorites and would not enforce the rules. But you cannot ban HPA in paintball..... so when enough customers leave I guess you either change your policies and enforce the rules or close up shop.

https://www.cedarcreekairsoft.com/rules.html

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HPA Airsoft Gun Rules (PolarStar, Valken V12, Wolverine, etc.)

- Max FPS limit is 400 with provided .25 BBs
- Max ROF (rate of fire) is restricted to 25 RPS (rounds per second)
⦁ Anyone using an HPA airsoft gun will be given a printed set of HPA specific rules to sign along with their regular field waiver.
⦁ HPA airsoft gun users will be made aware of our field rules pertaining to HPA guns BEFORE they pay admission.
⦁ By signing this paper HPA users are agreeing to abide by Cedar Creek Airsoft's field rules.
⦁ Cedar Creek Airsoft will have ZERO TOLERANCE for anyone who adjusts their HPA gun to a higher ROF/FPS (higher than the field limit of 400 FPS or 25 RPS) AFTER passing chrono with the correct ROF/FPS.
⦁ HPA gun users will have their wristbands marked with their gun's FPS/ROF in permanent marker after the gun passes chrono.
⦁ Once you are on the playing field, if you are suspected of having too high of an FPS or ROF, your gun will be re-chronoed on the spot by a referee.
⦁ If it is discovered that you have changed your HPA airsoft gun to a higher FPS or ROF (above the field limit of 400 FPS/25 RPS), you will be escorted off the field by a referee and told to leave the premises.
NO REFUND OF ADMISSION
⦁ If an HPA user is removed from the field, they are welcome to return on ANOTHER DAY - IF they can abide by the field rules.
⦁ If an HPA user is removed from the field for a second time, that player will be BANNED from Cedar Creek Airsoft field.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minimum Engagement Distance (MED) -
If your airsoft gun is shooting at over 300 FPS with .25 BBs, your MED is 10 feet.
If you are within close range of another player, please take every effort to call "safety kill". No one wants to be shot at close range if it is avoidable!
If your airsoft gun is shooting under 300 FPS with .25 BBs, you have no MED. However, if you are within close range of another player - you are required to use SEMI ONLY (or call "safety kill"). Do NOT full auto anyone at close range!

OVERSHOOTING -
Cedar Creek Airsoft will not tolerate any airsoft player who deliberately and continually
overshoots other players.
If any player is suspected of overshooting other players, that player will get 2 warnings.
1. The first warning will be verbal.
2. The second warning, player will be escorted off the playing field by a referee and
player will not be allowed to participate in any games for the next hour.
3. If the player's behavior continues after the second warning, player will be asked to leave
the premises. NO REFUND OF ADMISSION

Thank you norseman. My point is instead of banning a weapon platform like hpa let's educate those who don't know any better how airsoft is meant to be played. If they can't figure it out however ban them.
