Taking off a pinion gear?

Postby MySwan » Tue Feb 16, 2016 10:23 pm

I stripped my pinion and i bought a new one and I have tried so many of the suggested ways of getting the pinion gear off just short of using the $40 tool. I'm pretty short on cash right now and I really need this thing off to have a working AEG soon. Does anyone have any other methods of getting it off? I have tried heating it with a heat gun and using a vice grip then tapping the drive shaft to separate them and just trying to pull the damn thing off. I don't have a regular vice so I haven't tried that yet.

It sounds horrible. but I use a pair of wire clippers between the gear and the bell and pry it upwards like a lever, you want to go slow but it has worked every time for me and I have never damaged the bell or the post. I know it is not the ideal way but it works for me.
