Want to be a sniper? Need help picking a gun?

Discussion about sniper rifles or bolt-action.

So I talked to my local Army reqruiter recently about becoming an actual sniper. According to him (and reinforced by the marine reqruiter), on average, 95% of potential snipers complete the marksman portion of the training, then 80 of whats left is knocked out by the feild craft portion. This only reinforces the point made by mau.

first you have to qualify with a M4 on the range with a perfect score, get your marksmanship badge, then they will THINK about considering adding a bravo-4 to your resume.
I am not half as good as I want to be, but I am twice as good as you think I am.

This contributed to my decision to NOT become a sniper.

I like all three of the categories. (They all fit me) The Warrior 1 L96 is pretty good but the scope is hard to sight.

I should make my friend read this, he doesn't know how to use his brand new sniper rifle without someone taking it from him....
Very nice guide.

killabilla-
i'm unfamiliar with pellet trajectory bla, bla, bla. but i found best way to sight a hunting rifle is to shoot into your target then center your scope to the hole, it averages out to near perfect. (mm) either way if you need a definition of near.

Scopes

This guide, although intended for actual firearms, is an excellent guide for scope buying. I have a Leupold on my deer rifle and love it. Most of my airsoft sniping has been in the 'Category 2' bucket so a fixed 3x or 4x $50 scope accurate to 200 ft has been more than adequate.
