Antenna help

Radios and communication related equipment.

Do NOT buy that for a UHF radio. You will most likely damage the finals. That is far too much spacing in frequency to even try to play with. Essentially you will just turn all of your forward power into reflected power back into the radio.

Edit: I know they say it will do up to 512 Mhz, but I am assuming they are talking about receive, because if it isn't then you essentially are just strapping a dummy load to your radio and hoping that by sheer power you can have someone hear you.

Because unfortunately you're not allowed external antennas for FRS, and for GMRS most users aren't looking for a Milspec-looking system. Now, what you could look at doing is finding a way to short out part of it, so that it acts shorter than it is, which would bring up your "optimized" (resonant) frequency.

Buy this then find any UHF (430-450mhz) antenna that has a BNC connector.

Not sure how well that would work since it's designed for a very wide range. I don't think you are going to find what you want AND have it work... You can piece together something that might be similar...

Adaptor: http://www.gmrsoutlet.com/product.php?productid=42
Extnesion cable: http://www.2wayelectronix.com/HT-saver- ... T-adap.htm (You want BNC Male to whatever connector your antenna has)
Antenna: any antenna that you like that is for 440mhz

Eh, I would piece one together like I mentioned. You'll have much better results. A good antenna can get out 20+ miles. I have a good aftermarket on my Wouxun Ham radio and can access a repeater that is 23 miles LOS from me. You'll want an antenna that is meant for the band you are using (and as was pointed out, it's illegal to use a removable antenna for FRS bands...).

Welsh. Contact TCI and see if they can custom build you a MAST. Have all your radio info ready. They can likely help you and have your stuff done right.

[spam]

Bumping a year old post with something that could have easily been accomplished with a PM is a necro.

People should realize by now that Welshy doesn't hold onto anything for more than 4 months anyways, so this thread is obsolete ;)
