There used to be a guy who took old PRC radios, gutted them and rigged them up so you could just plug in your FRS radio. Google that shit.

Find it surplus. Google it. If you can't find it, GOOGLE HARDER. If you can't find it, HARDER.

Surplus shit gets cheeaap. Unless it's mint condition, or a vehicle.

Unless your looking for a backpack radio in general, Like they used in 'nam and shits.

I bet you could find those for $1k+, or $500+.

Why would you want a replica radio too? Real radios are where it's at.

You can find real, functioning PRC portable radios like the one you pictured on eBay. Since they work on higher frequencies/bandwidth you'll need an amateur (HAM) radio license to operate. You'll easily outrange anybody on FRS/GMRS but you won't be able to talk to them without doing some less-than-legal messing around. Don't do this. FCC fines aren't cheap.

I believe Vietnam airsoft used to make non functioning replica PRC-77's. They were also working on a version that would be a working FRS/GMRS radio. (not sure if they ever did tho) You can also check eBay for dummy PRC-77 radios, but expect to spend about $100 for one.

Yeah, it's about a 100 dollars to get the backpack, antenna and case setup. If you get the empty case you have tons of room, so you could put pretty much any FRS/GMRS radio you wanted into it. Otherwise, if want to get a fully functional one, expect to tag on another 500 dollars or more and to make it that you can only talk to other guys with your radio.
