HORPAT - USCM Camo Uniforms - "Aliens" Colonial Marines

Postby AaronHorrocks » Thu Jul 12, 2012 9:41 pm

This is a custom project that I've been working on for over 8 months... I'm making my own camo now!

At first I just wanted to make my own set, a "one-off" sort of thing, but it proved to be so expensive, that I decided to just go for broke and go into production... reproducing the camo uniforms that the Colonial Marines used in the movie ALIENS!

We're calling it "HORPAT". A little play on words from "MARPAT" for Marine-Pattern, so, "HORPAT" for Horrocks-Pattern.

"HORPAT" - UNITED STATES COLONIAL MARINE COMBAT UTILITY UNIFORM
Website: http://aaronhorrocks.com/USCM/HORPAT.html

When I say "COMBAT UTILITY UNIFORM", I mean it! These uniforms are made from tough, all natural fibers, and are patterned and stitched after actual military uniforms.
They're intended for use and abuse at cons, in the field, and in airsoft.
Buttons, are U.S. made, BDU buttons.
Velcro is U.S. made velcro for Army uniforms.

Prototypes Photographed, we still have time to make some minor changes before we ship uniforms.
My model "texted" in sick, so the photoshoot is postponed. We'll take those photos ASAP when she's felling better.

My wife is going to KILL me.

Great. How do I justify this one? "Honey, I already own the patches. I can just take them off the woodland camo...."

Awesome. What kind of price point are you looking at? If they aren't too expensive, I might grab a set.

Right now $160 for Blouse and $160 for Trousers. But you'll be one of only a handful of people in the world with an authentic Colonial Marines uniform.

At first, we were thinking of calling it "CAM" ...like "HOR-CAM". But that sounds like some sort of specialized camera for filming porn.

I'm skipping quite a few meals to pay for production, myself. I could stand to loose the weight though.

I'm hoping that my reenacting team does... But they're mostly a bunch of "can't afford anything" people. So I might keep a small box of "loaner" uniforms for them, that we can use at events to advertise the camo, and then after a few events, sell it off as slightly used. That way I can keep my group in fresh camo, and offer some sort of discounts.

Apologies for that.

I like the pattern but I think that the front pockets need to be redone. I personally think that they seem to small, and are positioned to high. Also Angling them to the left or right like on ACUs, MARPAT would probably also work better.

The Trousers look good, might just be the photo but they look kinda short.

The helmet cover could use the holes used in modern helmet covers. Also will it fit PASGT/MICH styled helmets?

Oh and one last thing, One thing I can't help but notice about Velcro is that it wears out to fast to be very effective. I believe that minimizing the Velcro on areas like the sleeve cuffs, and pockets that see a lot of wear and tear might work better too. Velcro just wears out to fast, and once it wears out it's a pain to replace; whereas, a button is a simple sewing session to fix (not to mention a lot cheaper to fix).

That's my two cents. I personally think they would sell much better. Other than the things I mentioned I like this new type of cammies, and depending on price might even buy a pair or two.

Edit: Just noticed the date... Feeling a bit special now.

Yeah. Now notice that, besides the date, that the clothing is a replica of clothing from a movie. Thanks for your comments and criticisms on how it should be designed . . . since HE'S FOLLOWING WHAT WAS IN THE MOVIE.

Kids these days.
