I dont have a mic but wouldnt this also work if u reccording this on a camera and transfer it to an Audio File on Windows Movie Maker, you still would get the sound waves.

Then put the sound waves on that program to get a precise fps from when the gun was fire to when it the target over distance.; its basically the same principle with some techinal changes.

Okay maybe not an assload more work per se but more steps and more crap to do. Ive used the mic method several times and its pretty simple and straightforward.

Connect mic, open program, click record, shoot 5-10 times, measure, divide, average.

I'm content with this method

It's nice that you're content.

Also, this is one of those instances where you should be more concerned with the range of the values, and not the average. You can have an average fps of 389 and still not have your replica not permitted on a field.

I am well aware that he said he doesn't have a mic, and that's easily and inexpensively rectified.

Of course its best to be sure that the majority of your shots fall within legal limits. I was merely stating that I like to average afterward.

Using a camera you already have is even cheaper than buying a mic. Considering he knows enough about it and Windows Movie Maker, it's also easy.

This is a very useful method, that is how I got the FPS on my gun.

If you want to get the true muzzle velocity without the AEG sound interfering just put a blanket or two over the gun so that it blowcks out all sound except for the bb hitting it's target.

I remember reading this when it was first posted.
If you put a blanket over then gun to nullify the sound, how are you supposed to distinguish the sound of the gun firing? Jus sayin...
I have been learning a lot about electronics and think I may actually be able to make a home made electronic chrono... Be looking for that in the future.
