Wiley X eyewear to sponsor Team Semper Fi:

Postby Knuckles » Thu Mar 06, 2008 11:14 am

Every airsofter out there depends on quality eye protection to keep our Mk1 eyeballs safe from high-velocity plastic. For those of us who are dedicated to the MilSim aspect of the sport, wearing anything other than what our operators are using on the front lines is just wrong. Wiley X eyewear is certainly one of, if not the premier protective eyewear specialist. Wiley X offers some excellent state-of-the-art armor for our eyeballs and they have recently gone beyond the call of duty by sponsoring team Semper Fi:

[quote="Press release"]Wiley X Eyewear is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Team Semper Fi for the 2008 Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race, formerly known as the Eco-Challenge, that will take place June 21 - July 2, 2008 in Montana. Primal Quest is an environmentally-friendly wilderness race in which teams compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. Wiley X Eyewear, a leading manufacturer of protective eyewear for enthusiasts across a broad range of categories, has donated a sizable contribution toward the team’s entry fees, making it possible for the team to enter the 2008 competition. Wiley X has also provided the team with a supply of unique eyewear, which — like these extreme athletes — is durable, dependable and able to perform in severe conditions. As standard issue for FBI, DEA, Army Rangers, Navy SEALs and other elite Special Forces units around the world, all Wiley X models meet or exceed the ANSI Z87.1-2003 requirements for High Velocity Impact Standards. Team Semper Fi is competing in 2008 in honor of Maj. Douglas Zembiec USMC and to raise money for the Veterans of Valor Organization, a group that supports service members wounded in the field of duty. Team Semper Fi’s experienced team is ready to take on the myriad challenges that this 8-10 day, 500-600 mile expedition race throws at them. The team finished the 2007 race in 44th place out of 90 teams (with 55 teams finishing), and was the first all-military team to cross the finish line. As a result of its 2007 efforts, the team received two distinctive honors — the Media Personality Award and the Eco Friendly Award. Co-ed teams of four experienced backcountry adventure athletes journey across rugged miles of terrain using only a map, a compass and their team members’ combined skills. The members of the team must travel together at all times and must finish together in order to be officially ranked. Additionally, in accordance with the Adventure Racing Ecological Standards publication from the United States Adventure Racing Association, all teams must follow environmental guidelines — this includes only traveling where permitted, not building campfires and strictly adhering to the “pack it in, pack it outâ€

Wow, that's cool. My company used to make Primal Quest's websites. It's actually pretty cool, you could track a team's progress as they move in realtime.
