I think hardly anyone in the community that jumps to nominating themselves to get the position is highly qualified for it. Shouldn't it be a suggestion thing of who everyone likes best?

I dunno, I think the current moderators should look at some applications themselves then issue a vote for a community feedback like on the top 5 candidates if there are that many, then they can make their choice based off their own preferences and the communities.
