I was just surprised that it seemed that you were attaking me I thought it below you (I guess you can't hear the tone in someones voice over the net too well). I was not being rude to Precious I was simply stating that if she really cannot think of a film heroine that she need not LIMIT herself because of gender. My point is that you all should try again next year. Your costumes were great and upped the level of the competition. If you guys do not take part next year WE will be missing out almost as much as you would.

I've boiled down a near half page rant to this:

I don't give a flying shazaam what you think until you read things you cite. That thread was full of people who didn't want a bunch of people coming for the prizes and not sticking around to contribute to the community. Some exceptions exist, they neither won, nor are they gone. Take note, a$$ clown, that the third prize winner has not even been heard from outside his own photo posting, which is exactly what the gripes thread is about.

Cosmos- Fact of the matter is I can't even cosplay girly anime guys because I am too feminine. I have large, pouty lips, and I've got a curvy butt, hips, and thighs. No amount of spanx or theatrical makeup would make me look like a dude; I'd just look silly. I'd look especially silly trying to be the muscle-bound heroes of action movies.

The bottom line is I'm not going to go out of my way to dress from the movies and games the judges like, because most of the characters are male, or I just don't like them. I put a lot of time and money into making costumes, so I'm not going to spend all of that effort making a costume I'm only going to wear once for a contest.

The bottom line is I'm not going to go out of my way to dress from the movies and games the judges like, because most of the characters are male, or I just don't like them. I put a lot of time and money into making costumes, so I'm not going to spend all of that effort making a costume I'm only going to wear once for a contest.

This may be what the problem some of the local folks have with cosplayers entering the contest. Last year, everyone who entered made a costume from scratch, specifically for the contest.

This year was different, and that's tough for some people to grasp. On the flip side, don't look down your nose at the folks who did take the time/effort/money to put something together just for this contest. While they may not have won anything (and no, they were not given special judging treatment, jeez), their effort can be recognized even if they don't build costumes as a year-round hobby.

I'm still in stuttering disbelief about the lingering perception that judges didn't rate costumes fairly because of their source material. I thought we cleared that up weeks ago...

I rated Balalaika as my #2 pick, and I have never once seen the show your costume is from (and I never care to). If I had judged the costume because of the source, I'd have rated you much lower.
