California Senate Bill 798, what can we do?

Read and comment on recent Airsoft News happenings. Also found on the main page of the website.

really warhawk? the way i see it...your parents are the reason airsoft is in jepordy...because you are 16 kid....and it appears that your parents are just as irresponsible as you are for allowing you to own replicas also. this is what makes me want to slap the living shit out of each and every one of them as they drop you off at a game, and say.." what the shazaam are you thinking!"

no parental supervision means kids like you run around acting like douchebags... i am not your bleeding parent, i am not even your bleeding friend.... i could care less weather you live or die with a airsoft replica at the hands of a cop quite frankly. you really should'nt be on the field in my opinion at all.

so yes you and YOUR parents are part of the problem and EXACTLY why this bill should pass.

i am positive my letter to the senator will read completely different then what anyone else here has written, put your money on that one.

kids and irresponsible parents killed airsoft....not KA-BAR's scathing letter to the senator.

remember that with your bright pink replicas in the near future.
I am not half as good as I want to be, but I am twice as good as you think I am.

^This. This is the problem. Minus the F you, it boils down to this.

Kids + BB guns = TROUBLE.

You can think it's just a kid hater if you want, but you need to realize us older guys have been you already. And you little schmuks are so predictable, it's very frustrating to see your trainwreck coming from so far away.

Deny it if you want, just proves my point. Some of you guys think your all so grown up and macho with your toy guns and nifty gear, but if your DAD isn't there with you teaching you some integrity and the proper way to do things (honesty in calling your hits, treat your replica like a real steel, etc.), then you shouldn't even be there.

Granted, we adults do some stupid shit, but that's not an argument you can use to defend yourself.

While I agree that kids owning replicas are a major problem, I fail to see how painting them pink is going to stop kids from owning them. If anything it is going to cause more kids to own them because their parents will think they are toys.
She said I raped her? Well, where there is a Will there is a way. But just remember, if it wasn't Lil, it wasn't Wil.

Wow...

I didn't bother reading this thread till now, because I really don't care about California and still don't.

I just want to say, some of you "adults" need to take it down a notch. I've seen more hacking, uncivil comments and unsafe behaviour from adults at games, than I have kids. You should know by now, these kids aren't going away. No ones asking you to watch them or even teach them. If you see a problem at a game. Tell the event host or admin, exactly who and what the problem is. Then they can handle it. Just go out and have fun.

Finally, threats to players or their parents safety will not be tolerated. I know none of you would actually do anything, so why even bother posting it...

but to the faceless parents out there that dont give a shit like you do.... i would slap each of them in a heartbeat.....and so will you in a year or two when OR adopts california's position on this issue and it starts effecting you..

you are the primary reason along with other examples on these forums that SB 798 should pass. you are a self entitled spoiled piece of shit.... i wish i could meet your mother so i could slap that bitches face....and if your irresponsible father wants to get froggy...that phony pony can jump too. ill beat his a$$ down also.

okay cranky old man. I've ALWAYS called my hits. I never said you didn't and now your accusing me of not calling my hits? And you're insulting my parents...for what? What did they do? What did I do? You're all talk. next time you want to start talking shit about me and my parents say it to my face. you wanna start an airsoft community for 18+ "mature" adults. go ahead

While your at it why not smack every other parent you've never met. because they deserve it..right?

Kids

Postby B.O.P. Hawk » Sun May 22, 2011 6:13 pm

^^+1

It seems to me that the only civil and respectable posts in this thread have come from us "kids." None of us have made any threats... but you, KA-BAR, the pessimist that you are, seem to have come to an acceptance that California is going under when it comes to airsoft, just like every other part of that god-forsaken state. We defend our sport, not aid in dooming it.

I could care less if you shit-talk people, but at least do it in a propper and respectable manner.

I under stand your argument: the reason this bill started was because some parents did not discipline their child properly, and that got the kid shot. This is no reason to produce hypocritical stereotypes that every kid is the same.
You said it your self, you have been where we are: you were stupid once too.

By the way... Look it up. The law does not say that it is illegal for minors to own firearms, real or replica. It does, however, state that it is illegal for them to purchase them, and their ammunition.

Given your statement (which I know is partially true...), where did you get your airsoft gun from?

Brother bought it for me for Christmas two years ago. I have since upgraded the thing (things, actually) to fit my style of play.

I wonder how many of the accidents have been caused by clearsoft guns sold at Big5, Walmart, Fred Meyer and Target and how many have been caused by replica's that are made 1:1 (or in that general area) and sold online by retailers.

That kind of info could drastically change my perspective on minors in the airsoft community (those that participate in the community, attend events, have impression-minded questions vs backyard warriors) if its found that there is a correlation between the type of airsoft gun involved and the number of recorded accidents. If it were the case that more incidents were caused by clearsoft guns, then Matt's letter would make all the more sense to legislators because there would be hard data to back it up.

My google-fu is weak, maybe someone else with have better luck trying to dig up stats.

What I found: ORS 166.250 states you cannot possess a firearm if you are under 18. There are numerous exceptions to ORS 166.250.
They are stated in ORS 166.260, 166.270, 166.274, 166.291, 166.292, 166.410, and 166.470.

What B.O.P. War Hawk is probably thinking of allows those under 21 to possess, but not purchase a handgun.

EDIT: Remember the difference between minor and juvenile.

I am not a legal professional and all information I stated was interpreted from http://www.leg.state.or.us.
For original wording look them up yourself.

That law states that "[...A minor may posses a firearm] Other than a handgun, if the firearm was transferred to the minor by the minor’s parent or guardian or by another person with the consent of the minor’s parent or guardian" unless they have been convicted of a crime involving a gun.

The kid who was shot was most likely given permission to own his airsoft gun by his parents. If his parents did not approve, then score one for KA-BAR.
