Memorial Service for Cody Patterson

Postby Variable » Thu Oct 17, 2013 1:40 pm

As most of you have probably heard, one of our own died in Afghanistan. Cody Patterson was KIA serving with 3rd Battalion 75th Rangers.

Cody's memorial service is this weekend in Corvallis.

The service may be picketed by a certain anti-gay church group. A counter-picket is organizing here: https://www.facebook.com/events/624558440928298

We need to get as many people out to pay respect to Cody, and counter protest those dirtbags from WBC.

A friend that has no connection to him posted up and they're getting a group together to go down just because WBC is going to be there.

My condolences and thoughts to his family and friends. I wish them well in this difficult time. WBC has no reason to be there. I never understood why they do that at people's funerals.

Saw Cody's body being escorted today by Sheriff's and PGR.. If you can attend to help counter the WBC, please do. Cody was a good guy and I wish I could have been a better friend to him in recent years.

My condolences and thoughts to his family and friends. I sadly will not be able to be there but please gods speed my message along.

Cody we are Forever In Your Debt with thanks to those who fought our wars, And those who died on Foreign Shores, We held it tight against the tide, and we shall be forever in your debt. it's time to rest now soldier your body may rest in hollowed ground but you will forever live in our hearts and minds. The trenches have long disappeared in to the ground and the siege guns stopped pounding. It is time for you to rest my brother in arms, of all the monuments they have erected for our fallen the most simple always remains, it's in the bloody trenches of no man's land, The coldest deepest parts of sea, the darkest jungles, the sun baked deserts and countless other battle fields. A pair of boots, a rifle stuck in the ground and helmet on top let's all those know that a hero lays here.
Rest now soldier and a parting glass to you for one day when we are called once more to march side by side into whatever hell may await us I will not know fear because you are at my side as you were in this world and the next.

Rangers lead the way.....

LYRICS:
All the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas, it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now, I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all!

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all!

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay.

Since it fell into my lot
that I should rise, and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all!

But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all!

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all!
There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.

Who was Cody to Airsoft Pacific? Or was he part of the community?

He is a member of our community. He's attended games, was a member of APST and was a good friend to many in this community.

A lot of my family is in one the Services. I am sorry to hear that WBC will be there. I know that if it was in my area I'd have a couple cartons of rotten eggs and an "I'm with stupid ->" sign ready.
I'm the osiris of this.

The estimate is that 5,000-6,000 people showed up to support Cody and his family and friends for the memorial service. There were 500 Patriot Guard, 300 Army Rangers, and several thousand other people there to counterprotest the WBC. Nobody saw them, but we later learned that the state police stopped their van just outside town and told them that they couldn't stop them from going to protest, but if they did they could not guarantee their safety. As far as I know, the WBC didn't even get out of their car before turning around and leaving. The outpouring of support from strangers across the state and even the country has been unbelievable.

Cody was a recent member of APST, and he will be sorely missed. He was an amazing upbeat guy that always had a funny story or a joke to crack. All of us that had the privilege of knowing him will never forget the outstanding person that he was.

He was also a member of PSC when I was there and was just an all around good guy to play with. I will miss seeing him on the field and talking over Facebook.

I was moved by the memorial yesterday. I was overcome with emotion by the line of people leading to the entrance. So much so that I nearly collapsed and had to grab the shoulders of Renagade and a near by soldier in order to keep my composure. Watching the flag being folded while choking back sobs was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my entire life. I wasn't very close to Cody during the time that I knew him. But I understood the kind of man he was. He has enriched the lives of all of use who met him. I will never forget these recent events for the rest of my life.

It was good to see some of you there in Corvallis, and I wish it was under better circumstances.

I've been telling everyone I know about this for days. What a moving event this was, and I didn't even go (I regret it).
