Two New Technical Reviews

Postby Matt » Sat Dec 02, 2006 7:55 pm

Seagreen has written a review of the G&P M4 Marine, overall it looks like we're very impressed with the exceptional quality of the gearbox on these models. Also check out the new review of the ICS AK74M, another decent model for AK lovers. APST has fired throusands of rounds through ours and it's still chugging along!

Im planning on spending a great deal of time reviewing the technical aspect of new products entering the market, as well as those there is little information about.

There is nothing weaker than a review without a clear understanding of what it inside the gearbox. Where are the weak points? What is the overall feel? Is there anything that should be addressed immediately?

All future reviews will have a complete view of the internals, like the two reviews I just completed. When I want information about a replica, before I spend the money, I want to know what Im getting. In the past it just wasnt a realistic goal....today on AP it is.

not to be nit-picky and a pain..

But the ICS AK costs more in HK then US?

Cost: $290 (HK) $250 (US)

I read that and figured I might get into the AK's, then saw the prices (and read the G&P review)

Great job otherwise.

EDIT: let me rephrase my statements to answer seagreen, the price didn't turn me off, i was confused. I wasn't turned away from the G&P, because I realize what you get for the money, and would rather have that then the AK.

Yes, if you would like to cross reference that look on WGC. CA and ICS have odd pricing overseas. They appear to be more geared to sell in the American market.

Also: How can you complain about $250 for a full metal AK?

Where is the rub with the $350 for the G&P? It is a fully dressed upgraded replica out of the box. The single extras you would shell out more than cover the upfront cost.

Extremely well done reviews Bill, like one would expect anything less from you of course!

G&P seems to be shaping up as a great AEG producer...

I noticed the trigger guard doesn't appear to be fixed on that G&P M4 Marine. Would it be easy to switch that out for the Magpul Industries enhanced trigger guard? I love that thing...

Well, uh... Yes, that will happen.

My only question is how the G&P scored a 9.9 externally when you can visibly see from the pictures that the body doesn't fit together correctly...

That is the angle Ben of the shot. Without the flash, you can't see the line. It is as solid as a rock. The gap you see if from the flash. The actual gap is less than 1mm.

Also, G&P doesn't use tabs. It uses a lug at the rear lip of the body, so the positive lock isn't going to be as "exact" as the ones with tabs. It also wont have the breakage issue.

Mono, yes you can remove the trigger guard.

I have a few question about the G&P for you. What mags are you using. I've got the SAM-R and MAG midcaps won't fit. Also how is your hop up? Mine doesn't seem to respond to any changes i make.

I have used G&P M16 style hop-ups for the last couple years. Both have been very consistent. You may need to disassemble yours and check your bucking and rubber nub.

If you are still having issues with the hop-up, I can always take a look at it for you.

I have used TM, CA, and G&P. No issues with the replica for feeding. Id like to check the MAG and Star's in it as well. I believe the issues associated with the plastic mag's ends up being a replica to replica issue, not so much an product line issue.
