Would maybe surveyors tape, running off the trees, kinda like office cubicles work?

That would just generate more mess. Dealing with sectioning off, and assigning spots is more hassle than it's really worth. What happens with no shows? What about people that got there the day before, but were late to sign up, so they are further back?

People need to treat camping at a game like camping at a National Park. You wouldn't leave your Pringles cans and other shit all over in the woods. Camping at an airsoft event should be no different. Individual accountability is the lesson here. Not forced rules.
