Do WW2 reenactors speak their respective languages?

German reenactors, can any of you speak a fluent sentence of German?
Same to any other reenactors... Besides maybe terrorists..
We want 'em to know if they're gonna leave a bomb on the side of the road, first, we're just gonna blow up their little f**kin road.

I speak Japanese, but If i do ever get into WWII reenacting (which I intend to do later in the year) I would probably not be a Japanese soldier because little games are based in the Pacific.

I also speak English.

The real question is: do YOU speak enough German to realize that when I'm re-enacting a Nazi, I'm actually just reciting Rammstein lyrics?

You should really stop making pointless topics.

Yes... I know most Rammstein songs the average American does. Also I am learning German by myself. Along with Spanish, but that's off-topic.

Kann ich Mufasa töten? Ich will ihn schmerzen.

Nein, Pig Latin ist nicht gut.

I tried to check my grammar but the few sites I found only translate words, not grammar...

Okay, serious reply...

In traditional blankfire reenacting you are expected to at least know in the language of your impression:

- common courtesy phrases ("hello, good-bye, thank you, etc)
- basic military jargon (what your equipment is called, attention, at ease, etc)
- combat commands (contact, enemy sighted, forward, retreat, etc)

If you don't know how to say something in the proper language you should say it quietly to whom you are conversing, not yelling out for everyone to hear.

Proper language being spoken really adds to the experience. At Jump To Destiny last year my first battle was walking into an L-shaped ambush set by a gruppe of Fallschirms in the dark at 3am. Hearing them yelling in German from out of the darkness was even spookier than the flares they launched and the blankfire MG34 going off!

Re-enactment is much better with the proper languages being spoken.

So you aren't really learning German, you just know how to use Google language tools?

I know enough German to call for a medic, tell someone to hurry, tell an enemy to lower his weapon, say , "We must kill the sub-humans" (transliteration: under-men) and, "We must exterminate the Jews" (thank you, Eric Cartman). I do not use the last two as I doubt they were common war-cries and do not help to accurately simulate WWII combat on top of the fact that the second of the terms is just plain racist.

If I ever finish learning Japanese to my satisfaction, German is second on my list.

...or Laibach lyrics. :p

Seriously though. If I were to actually participate in a WWII Reenactment Event, I would be sure to learn at least some simple commands/phrases just for immersion sake.

LettuceHead has the right idea, IMHO.
