Nah, public debate is healthy. I'm learning a lot.

They seem to be having a healthy discussion. While they disagree on some minor issues.. They are keeping it civil.

now that's funny!! I was in 1st Recon Bn, with back in the 80's. and also in FR, and a member of FRA, no one in FRA stated they know you. kinda like no one in 2nd Recon Bn knowing other "Marines". Of course, maybe I'm wrong. I'll check with 'gunny', maybe he has some connections. yes, Bob (Cayanne6) was in 'Nam, and he's got a VERY good recolection of what he wore. Kinda like the early days when even Bn guys bouth 'mamasan'd' tigers from out in the ville.
course, the best stroy of all is the pile of 'crap' on the hood of the stolen jeep that belonged to the C.O.!! Oh, sorry, not stolen,....acquired!

I didn't know RECON wore Levi's sometimes. I always thought that was more of a SEAL thing. Not arguing with you (I'm on VN-A.com and WCR too so I know who you are and a few of your sources so I trust you), just didn't know.

Not many people know this Batsy.
Some RECONNERS did indeed wear Levi's , there is proof of this but the RECONNER who has the photos is very private about it and doesn't want them spread all over the internet.

yeah, congo is right, Doug is a very private guy. i was with guns when he met Doug. I think the only reason Doug opened up to us was because Guns whipped out the FRA membership card, then his MCL challange coin, talked the talk and walked the walk!! LOL But yes, Doug did say that his team sometimes would go out in levis. Not all the time, but it was done. Not as often as the seals did though. Doug also said that he had a dyed set of jungles, when he rotated home, he sent them to his brother but he never wore them. He wore mamasaned tigerstripes also. So, Batsy, yeah, it was done like congo said but wasn't often.

better not let gunny see those w/o your famous red watermark!!! LOL Glad you got the email from him, fascinating, isn't it? By the way, I think Cayanne would be proud of your impression.

Yes Chris , i got Gunny's email , interesting info indeed.
It was Cayanne who helped getting the impression down right , even confirming the use of STABO rigs by Reconner's , when every "expert" out there said it was NEVER done.

He's a good guy, Cayanne is. You can tell that lower pic of 3rd Force is very late in the war by the use of the 30rd's. Must be when Lee took over as commander. I believe he started 'upgrading' his guys. He's also the one who got 3rd Force seperated from 3rd Recon Bn. and to start running MAF patrols as it was designed to do, not another company for Bn.

I can't find my copy of Force Recon Command but, I'm fairly sure Lee said in reference to the 30rnd mags, his first goal was to make sure every marine had at least 1. He wanted the pointman to have a least two though because the extra twenty rounds was a multiplier in the first few seconds of contact. That's an entire mag change.

Will need to add the M52 Mountain Ruck to the list of Ruck's used by Reconners during the war.

Congo, I know the WWII 1942 Mountain Ruck was extremely popular. Is the M52 an updated version?
