Army grunt vietnam loadout

Postby Patrick750 » Thu Oct 14, 2010 7:04 pm

I want to make a army grunt vietnam loadout. It's not going to be used in games but as a costume. I do want it to be realistic though. No shortcuts. Any one know what a simple loadout would be and where to get the parts to it? Also where can i get dog tags? I might be going to an army surplus store (andy & bax) this weekend so if there's anything i can get there than let me know.

Also you'll need an M1 Helmet with a MITCHELL cover , Surplus stores usually have some for around $25 or a little more.

Do they have both the helmet and cover?

Most of the time they'll have a helmet with an '80s cover but you can take the cover off .
The Mitchell covers are on the middle shelf , the '80s covers are on the left side of the shelf above them

Some really inexpensive additions are the standard angle-head flashlight, generally hung or taped on the suspenders, a bandoleer for mags, and a couple dummy grenades.

The M26 with the yellow band was the norm, but it wasn't uncommon to also see early M67 baseball grenades, and the Mk2 grenades leftover from WW2 - IIRC, the Marines mostly got those. Definitely add a smoke grenade somewhere, as that was an essential part of the kit. You'll usually see people carry a pack of cigarettes, bug juice or whatever small objects in the band of the helmet, as well. These are all small things, but they do make the details in a good loadout.

Really cool stuff. I really want to have a military suit.
