blank fire - 505th PIR WWII

Postby _RAGNAR_ » Thu Feb 04, 2016 12:29 pm

We are looking for new unit members for our WWII reenactment unit

We currently have a rifle platoon and a Company HQ (minus)
We are in the PNW centered around Oregon but have members from about 5 States. I’m from north of Seattle, we have guys that drive from Idaho and NORCAL and a few guys that fly in a few times a year from all over the country.

We represent the 505th PIR (which if you’re into WWII has an truly incredible history)

We get together for “tacticals” about 4 times a year for three-day weekends. Thats the battles where we fight the OPFOR (germans) for the weekend.

We are also scheduling some training (another 3-4 day weekend) and probably some period live-fire competitive shooting weekends. (some will be scheduled for local subgroups of guys say from WA, or guys from the eastside etc)

Its a good group of guys ranging in age from probably 14-70 ! Yes, a guy in a sister unit who drives the halftrack is 70 and he goes on road marches for fun wink emoticon. Our Mess SGT is 60, so there are roles for those that don’t really feel like running throughout he woods with the kids…We have a great mixture of veterans and enthusiastic private citizens, history buffs, gun guys, living history guys, and everything in between.

The focus is on history, camaraderie, and trying to run a HQ and field tactics and do it the WWII way. Its a good time, with only the best parts of the army, walking through the woods, shooting the bad guys, and having a beer with chow :-)

Like I said we have a Rifle Platoon and a Company HQ. HQ has most all the functions you’d expect, admin, intel, ops, commo, supply, mess. We still need an armorer or two, a medical detachment and maybe a motor guy. Of course more commo, intel, and ops are always welcome. We run the admin and CP for the Allied side during battles, so we do more than a real Company HQ would do.

The positions in the rifle platoon are pretty self explanatory; rifleman, machine-gun team member, mortar man, radio operator, etc.

We field a full complement of weapons, the M1 Garand, Carbines, Thompsons, 1919s, 60mm mortar, and bazookas. All legally shooting blanks of course

We also have many members that do static displays and living history demonstrations on various holidays, do demonstrations at schools, etc.
