Homemade launcher valve help

Postby CalvinB » Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:16 pm

Over break, I am going to make a Nerf Vortex launcher and I am at a loss. All the plans that I have seen use a sprinkler valve, however I am trying to make this one in the LAW/ AT4 style, and the sprinkler valve, as far as I know requires the use of a pistol grip in the configurations I have seen.

Is there some sort of valve that could use a small, low profile, trigger on the outside of the body? It could be either electronic or mechanical. I would like to be able to store the launcher for an hour or 2 charged so the valve has to hold air tightly.

I DID NOT INVENT THE INTERNETS FOR THIS

There are a lot of parts on here for a lot of different things. You can even get rifled barrels on there too.

I would caution against building a pneumatic launcher for the nerf pocket footballs. Some game hosts may not allow them because of their unregulated pressure. One of these could easily propel a pocket football fast enough to break someone's ribs.

You can put in a safety valve to limit pressure. And so you don't overfill the launcher and explode it....

If you can put in a regulater valve and calculate the fps for a nerf rocket then go for it. Just don't over fill it, exploding pvc will shred arms, legs, faces, and anything else that it encounters.

I actually found a PSI gauge with a built in safety blow off valve. They came in different packages for different PSIs.
