Comms are important, but pretty low on the gear totem pole. Before investing in a radio, make sure you have spare: eye pro ( easy stuff to lose and the most important part if your kit), batteries and mags.
After that's done, I'd look into a midland set. You can get a pack of 2 with a recharging station for about $60 on ebay last I looked. They work great for airsoft and you can't beat the price.
Also, if you're running a plate carrier, or some other setup, be sure to keep your radio accessible. Having it on your back is a bad idea as you always need someone to adjust the volume/change the channel for you.
