World FPS Limits

Postby Beran » Wed Dec 03, 2008 6:32 pm

i did this research a while back, when the PTOC 350fps drama was happening. its been sitting here ever since, and i figured it is pretty relevant data and should be available to the community. i was surprised at how moderate AP's limits actually are, we aren't nearly as conservative as some would have suggested.

World Airsoft FPS limits. All FPS readings with 0.20g BBs.

Countries with under 1 Joule limit
Germany – 0.5 Joule (235fps)
Japan – 0.98 Joule (325fps)

Countries with approximately 1 Joule limits
United Kingdom – 1 Joule (330fps)
Italy – 1 Joule (330fps)
Slovenia – 1 Joule (330fps)
Spain – 1 Joule (330fps) Auto, 2.4 Joule (510fps) Semi/Bolt
Hungary – 1.1 Joule (345fps) CQC, 1.5 Joule (400fps) Auto, 3.3 Joule (600fps) Bolt
AP – 1 Joule (330 fps) CQC, 1.5 Joule (400fps) Auto, 2.8 Joule (550fps) Bolt
Ireland – 1 Joule (330fps)
[size=75][i]“The one joule limit most likely arose from UK case law where it was found that energies in excess of one joule were required to penetrate an eyeball (thus causing serious injury). As a result, airsoft devices under one joule of power have been declassified and have become perfectly legal to possess and use within The Republic of Ireland.â€

interesting. range must really suffer under the 1 joule area. reminds me of the great backyard warz. where you have crappy springers at like 175 fps.. those were not the days....

To Canada!

Nah I'm actually pretty comfortable with the current fps limits here at AP. I mean I would like some small changes but you know how people here at AP are when someone wants to change Anything related to safety.

Tool? That's not very nice! :D

Granted, your point is very valid in that a finely tuned 330FPS gun will outrange some stock 400FPS gun, but if you have a gun tuned for accuracy which is *also* at 400FPS, it will still outrange its lower-FPS brethren.

No, not necessarily. They have guns with the same capabilities as we do, just not that M120 spring.

The difference isn't that huge. Especially in combat.

You forgot the limit for the Philippines.

Or the supposed lack thereof. It'd be cool to get FPS ratings for other groups across America as well.

California

Killer Beez Airsoft- 450fps AEG for CQB and Outdoor, 600 for bolt. (Group is comprised primarily of off duty Marines.)

SoCal Airsoft: Couldn't find it. It looks like it may be up to the event host. Anyone else have intimate knowledge here?

Roughnecks Airsoft: 400 fps AEG for CQB and Outdoor, 500 for bolt

858 Airsoft: FPS determined by event host, usually 400 fps all around.

I will update this list as I have time. ;) I'll add other national and local organizations. I know there are some loosely affiliated groups that host private 500 and 450 fps games in this area alone.

i didn't bother with the US groups, because it seems to vary widely all over the place. some states will have dozens of communities with several fps limits. also, im more interested in LEGAL limits, not community set ones.

This is a community limit, though. I do understand using it as a reference, though.

RTF: no true limit....although we try to keep it under 440 for AEG's and 500 for bolt.
380 for CQC, although we have not set any rules or regulations in stone.

exactly, hence the bright color and bold text. none of the other airsoft communities in the United States are my community, and logic dictates that if you are reading this chances are good it might also be considered your community (even if it isn't your only community). thereby i am including our own limits in there as a point of reference.
