WHAT: The Long Winter
WHERE: Vaughn, WA
WHEN: 11-13 JAN 2008
COST: 3 DAY(Fri-Sun): $90.00 2 DAY(Sat-Sun): $70.00

Registration: http://www.battlesim.com/zen/index.php? ... cts_id=255

ABOUT THE EVENT:

This year's Long Winter will simulate the link up between US 1st Army and British XXX Corps that happened on Jan 14, 1945. A small squad was sent out on Jan 12 from 3rd Battalion, 347th Infantry from a small village near St. Hubert to link up with British troops.

Participants will be housed and feed for the weekend. There will be 3 major playable sides: German, American and British. We may also have room for civilian resitance fighters depending on total number of players. We will have suggested units that participants should be a part of, but given the nature of the Battle - mixed units were normal.

We will have strict uniform requirements and weapon rules for the event. The event will include WWII vehicles, artillery and other "goodies"! This is the WWII Airsoft event of the year and we look forward to seeing old familiar faces as well as new ones!

Here is a link to the video produced by the News Tribune on last year's event:

Battle of the Bulge BACKGROUND:

Toward the end of 1944, Hitler knew the war swinging in favor of the Allied Armies and demanded his generals devise a plan to slow the Allied advance. On the morning of December 16, their offensive was launched. Three German Armies, totaling 25 divisions (11 armored) struck six unsuspecting American divisions at Ardennes and overran their lines. Heroic resistance by survivors, the retention of two critical road junctions, and swift reinforcement by both American and British troops halted the German advance.

American Counteroffensive

Two days before the New Year, a counteroffensive was launched against the Germans. Patton's Third Army struck the north while the First Army pushed to the south. The two armies were to meet at the village of Houffalize to trap the Germans. Progress was painfully slow and costly because the retreating Germans laid in wait with strategically located resistance as the Americans wallowed through open fields in deep snow and frozen ground that provided no shelter.

Hitler's "Great Blow"

Hitler then launched a plan called the "Great Blow" on January 1st. His goal was to eliminate Allied air power. German fighter planes swarmed over Belgium, Holland, and northern France bombarding airfields. Many Allied aircraft and bases were laid to ruin from the attack but the price paid by the Germans was devastating. The German Luftwaffe lost 300 planes and 253 trained pilots.

On January 8th, Hitler realized his offensive had failed and ordered his troops to withdraw. By January 16th, the Third and First American Armies joined at their objective village of Houffalize. This meant that the Allies now controlled the original front. On January 23rd, Saint Vith was retaken and by January 28th the Battle of the Bulge was officially over.

Great news on the date Hellmutt - so what is the scene likely to be on the lodging? Will my old sorry a$$ have a nice warm bed after a long cold day, or will I be hanging out with the guys on the floor in my sleeping bag? :)

Gear - We can rent the full uniform outfit, and wrap any non-period weapons in burlap?

Interested in coming this year. Looks like a blast

Does this actually start on Friday, or does registration start on Friday, with actual shooting happening Saturday and Sunday?

Yes you can rent the full setup. Non-period guns in burlap is fine.

so what is the scene likely to be on the lodging?

Military tents. We have cots available so not quite a bed but not the ground. Last year a couple guys slept in the tank, that was cold.

We will have a night mission on Friday night. No shooting during the day Friday though.

Registration's open!

http://www.battlesim.com/zen/index.php? ... cts_id=255

The regular playable sides are US and BRITISH. If you need rental kit, it is $25.00 and make sure to indicate your size (S/M/L/XL) - if you have strange measurements please include them in the comments. We will do our best to help you out but we have a limited amount of sizes available.

We will also be selling WWII weapons before the event. We plan on getting in Cyma Thompsons, ACM Kar98s, AGM MP40s and perhaps Tananka Kars if there is interest.

GERMANS

The German side will be OPFOR and is open to being played by non-battlesim staff but we need okay each person. There is a $500 cost on OPFOR and we will give those with permission to play a coupon for that amount.

OPFOR is a different experience and is more demanding. You have to be able to follow orders explicitly at all times. In general you will not be allowed to go back to vehicles, or come out of character for the weekend. You will sleep in the field and you will perform admin tasks as well as gameplay.

If you have never been to a Battlesim event, OPFOR is not for you. We want to have had played with you a few times before. It is open to non-team members but on a strict person by person basis. If you are interested in playing OPFOR, contact me (hellmutt) directly via PM, email or in person.

Registration is limited to 60 slots.

So being a German is very pricey these days, eh? What are those dang euros worth more than our good ol' American Greenbacks?

You can play German but it is an OPFOR role so you have to be approved for the position. Once you are approved we issue you a $500 coupon. :)

Damn... I even got German gear for Christmas... I'll wait for the next WWII game. Hopefully the German roles will be a little more... regular player friendly.
