The 173d Airborne Brigade took part in 14 designated campaigns in RVN. It remained in combat longer than any other American military unit since the Revolutionary War. It earned four unit citations, had 12 Medal of Honor winners, 1601 Sky Soldiers were killed in action and another 8,435 were wounded in action.

In 1968 the majority of the Brigade was stationed in the province of Binh Dinh. Operations were also conducted in the Central Highlands and near Ban Me Thout.

For the next four years the Brigade conducted operations against VC/NVA forces. Not as frequently noted as it should be, the Herd also provided security for medical teams involved in MEDCAP; training of indigenous forces for self-defense; and other programs designed to undermine the VC infrastructure in the rich rice-growing lands of the Coastal Plain. Emphasis was on small unit patrols and combined operations with ARVN/MSF/RF-PF units.

This event will put you into "a day in the life" of the 173rd in 1969/1970. Get your boots strapped on as we pay homage to one of (if not the) hardest fighting units in the Vietnam conflict.

The M14 is a battle rifle, not a sniper rifle.

By the way, you do realize they did not have polymer stocked M14s in Vietnam right?

Registration is extremely low (only 3 people as of Thursday 7/30). If you are interested in attending this event, we suggest you sign up by Sunday. If we do not reach at least 20 people by Sunday, we will have to cancel the event.

M14 was replaced by the M16 because it was accurate to 300 yards and had a good rate of fire and the average firefight experience was at less than 150 yards so the military replaced it with the m16 in the study's at that time the m14 was to accurate and only could be fired in semi automatic had no use expect for a sniper rifle after being resurrected by the Marines for a designated marksman rifle. for there four its considered a battle rifle and a automatic sniper rifle but the counter part of the M14 was the M21 a strictly use sniper rifle in Vietnam and were did the M21 get its design from the M14 because of its accuracy
