I'm down for whatever. I think a good basic soldiering and landnav referesher would be good. Perahaps a quick refresher on radio useage since some of us apparantly still don't know how to use a radio. I'd like to see a DM course, and a scout/recon would be a good followup to all of that.

You have to have students capable of doing the work in order to have an advanced class. You don't get to show up at Ranger School. You have to go to OSUT, AIT, Jump School, and then serve at least a year in the 75th, or have 2-3 years experience if you're not in 75th before you can go to Ranger School.

You also need to complete RIP before being allowed into the 75th, then you wait, then you go to Ranger School.

As an aside- It used to be (probably still is) fashionable for officers to attend to just to get the tab. Buncha poofters. Don't get me wrong- they had to be dead hard to graduate, but it's an effing stupid thing to do, from your average GI Joe's perspective. Many of the Rangers I knew weren't tabbed- they already had the black beret and regimental scroll-patch- wtf did they need to go to school for what they were already doing for a living? The Ranger Tab lost most of it's value to real Rangers when it became a fashion accessory.
Jump School and RIP (and a needed MOS) are the only requirements to being a Ranger. Jump School's a joke, but RIP's a bloody man-eater. It chewed me and most of my class up and spit us out. A lot of drop outs, and a lot of guys like me who got injured too badly to complete the course.
One in who-knows-how-many thousands of soldiers becomes a Ranger- How many civilians do you know that could do at the drop of a hat or over the course of weekend?

How the hell could I not chime in with this one. OK.. OSUT, one station unit training, is just a combined Basic and AIT. Used to be that Jump School was not mandatory. ..75, one of three battalions. (Used to be) RAnk of E3 and above. Rip (used to be called Ranger Indoctrination Program, Now called Ranger Introductory Program.) Ranger School. Ranger School, now 14 weeks, used to be 16. I believe they either combined some phases or dropped some entirely. Whats real interesting is Q course and BUDS (Special Forces and SEALS). TAB is nice, but if you never served in the battalions, well, its kind of a premature ejac. (Like my thought process)

Please correct any of my errors as my info is wolefully out of date.

PS... There is also the JFKSPWC.

I like the Scout/Sniper, Marksman, and Basic Rifleman classes. Those wold be good to go through. I also do like the whole camoflauge thing...what Claymore said. Would there be a class for squad gunners, I read something about it but didn't see any legit posts about it.

Well, from what I've seen, most people, myself included, could use a basic infantry course. This could cover basic elements of camo, using cover, laying an ambush, and squad based movement (i.e. how to cover your partner's a$$ while he moves). Most people don't actually know how to work as a team and you end up with a bunch of people all trying to be Rambo in a group rather than using tactics that utilize the group. I think that once everyone has these very basic concepts down, then you can think about the more advanced stuff. I'm sorry if it sounds like a bunch of boring drills to you old hats, but it's really what's needed. (and since you're all such experts in the matter it shouldn't take long for you to drill it through our thick skulls)

Five month necroposts make me horny.

But yes, another basic infantry course is needed. BANG BANG!

I would be interested in a scout/sniper course, along with infantry, rifleman type courses.
