Question about the chronoing...

Me and my friends guns are shooting about 400-415 FPS chronoing from 5 ft away; 390-400 FPS 10 ft away and 380-390 FPS 20 ft away. At what distance will you chrono the airsoft guns and can we get away with our current FPS because 5 ft away chrono is ridiculously close, and we wouldn't think about shooting someone that close in a game. Please reply back TOP as we do not want to get there and not be able to play because our guns shoot 10-15 over 400 limit.

Chronoing is always done at point blank range. That's because your gun is safe for others if it shoots under 400 FPS out of the barrel, not when it hits them.

Chrono is typically the muzzle as close to the "radar" as possible. Not 5-10ft away.

The chrono is right at the muzzle of the gun. So 400FPS out of the barrel or your guns are all no go's.

Well that dosn't make sense but ok. Sounds pretty harsh for something thats hard to control. I mean I had work done to my gun so it would be lowered right down to the limit.

how is it harsh?

it is what we have always done in the AP community, and if it isnt at close range, then it isnt "muzzle velocity" since it isnt at the muzzle.

and how is it hard to control, my gun consistently shoots 380ish give or take a couple fps

and what is your limit? 400 at 10 feet from the chrono?

We chrono your gun at the muzzle with .2g BBs. Bring an empty magazine to the chrono station for us to put BBs in. Then we mark your gun.

If you think you'll be over limit, get a velocity reducer or put a lighter spring in.

question is how strict are you going to be, as in mmy gun is shooting like 407, so are you going to say sorry you drove out here 5 hours for nothing head home?

Here is a what if question. What if I put my old ported cylinder back into the gear box as opposed to a full cylinder. Would that make a difference and lower the FPS?

Cylinder probably wouldn't make a difference. The only thing I think you could do is cut down the spring a little bit, and make it shorter, but I am not sure it would work, but I have heard of it being done before. The 400FPS rule is pretty strict at most places, usually 401 is considered over the limit.

If you're already willing to open the gearbox to put in a ported cylinder, just replace the spring.
A gun doesn't have to be on the bleeding edge of 400 fps to have good range.
