New member - new gun.

Postby JasonAllison » Fri Jul 16, 2010 3:17 pm

I bought an AK47 from big 5 and it had a really high velocity rating. I figure higher velocity rating = more accuracy = greater range. Well, it's V.R. is 487 with .12g BBs. Is there anywhere I can use this piece?

Second question, are there fields that we can constantly use that are like constantly open?

AP velocity restrictions are 400 fps with .20 gram bbs.

Check the event calendar for games/locations.

Read the stickies.

the farm is always open every Saturday and Sunday?
and if your thinking about going take a look at some higher quality gun cause aegs that you buy from big 5 break easily.

The good news for you is that 487 FPS with 0.12g is still within the outdoor limits at most games around here, as the terribly critical measurement is the energy in terms of joules. Being as the limit around here is generally 1.49j (0.20g at 400 FPS), your gun is shooting about 1.32j, given a 0.12g at 487 FPS. This is roughly equivalent to a 0.20g BB at 385 FPS. So, your gun is about the same as any other stock AEG out there.

That being said, I would probably trust a chrono long before I trusted the measurements posted on the box.

So, uh, welcome aboard, read the stickies, be nice to everyone, and we look forward to seeing you at a game.

Welcome to AP.

I would start using at least .2 gram bb's, because .12 are in general poorer quality bbs and can have negative effects on your gun and accuracy.

Rick Fisher (Riddick) sells bb's at most games these days so you can pick some up from him at a good price. Or you can buy some at any online airsoft store such as Airsoft Outlet NW (ASONW). http://www.airsoftoutletnw.com

Your judgement is right and wrong, but I won't take the time to explain.

Anyways, if I were you I'd switch to a better, reliable gun, or stop using .12s and go for .20s. Some fields here in Socal and other states completely BAN you from playing if you are caught with .12s. The reason being is because the crack and disintegrate quickly upon impact with a hard object, such as, but not limited to, mesh face masks. They also have a tendency to go in different directions in under the very slightest wind conditions, although it happens with pretty much every BB, it will become most noticeable with a .12.

Rule 9: Guns Are for Hunting, Not for Zombie Killing.

Don't be a douche, roll with the punches, be tactful and polite, humility is your friend, call your hits (even if you have doubt). You do these and you will find people wanting to play with you, and teams wanting to pick you up.

Joined a month ago after visiting the AirsoftNW outlet in Cornelius. I had just bought my first airsoft as a trial gun from Walmart, where you get what you pay for I guess. It was enough to get me hooked. I just went back out to AirsoftNW yesterday and bought my first real airsoft rifle. Picked up the Classic Army M15A4 R.I.S. and love it so far. Can't wait to get into some games. My kids inherited the Walmart special.

Wish I could, heading out on vacation to Seattle for a few days. I will probably come out at some point and check it out though. My son wants to go, but is only 12, so we will be out just to look in a couple weeks. When he is 13 we will be out to game.

If your going to Seattle, you might try stopping by the surplus stores by Ft. Lewis. Its a great place to find awesome deals and kit on the cheap.

Also Tactical Tailor is in that area as well, worth stopping by to oogle the awesomeness!
