Just out of curiosity why are you wanting to convert an M14 to use a 5.56 size magazine? Are you trying to make a rifle that looks like a Mini-14 on steroids?

Nope, you'd have to have something completely custom manufactured.

you might be able to do it by taking the inner well off a g36 convert and putting it in an empty m4 mag, depening on exactly how well you did it it might still maintain functionality with m14 mags, and then you would just have this m14 mag with a button on the side and a hole on the bottomand you slide the m16 mags into the hole. you might need to butcher an inner barrel to a rediculously short length to connect to top of the magwell conversion inside the mag to the hole in the m14, and you'd never load the whole mag, but it's work, and might not take a huge amount of tools. just a drill and a dremel.

Mini14's/AC556's are significantly smaller than a M14 . . . . .

but it wouldnt be that hard to build an magazine adapter really. I doubt if magazines would be particularly secure (which would hurt reliability), but a few minutes with some JB Weld, a dremmel tool, and a few bits of scrap, and it could be done.
