Need some help assembling my V.2 Gearbox

Postby Pancake » Tue Nov 23, 2010 11:02 am

So far I have two problems:

1. My wiring is being a phony pony, its the stock wiring that came with the gun, any tips on how to keep it in place?

2. I am upgrading my plastic bushings to metal, I got CA metal bushings. I got the right size, because the bushings fit just fine where the Spur Gear and the Bevel Gear goes. But when I try to put one in where the Sector Gear goes on both halves of my gearbox it won't go in. The bushings extend a little farther then my plastic ones but I don't think that should be a problem.

Thanks

All I can say is make sure you don't pinch the wire or you'll really screw yourself.
Try using a round file to shave a little bit off the bearing hole.
Don't forget to shim the gears! Even if you think their fine, plastic bushings tend to be taller than metal bushings.

Wait... whats shimming?

I don't have any tools to file anything down.. Would 2 plastic bushings instead of metal be fine? I am upgrading with a High Torque Motor, 9.6v battery, and m120 spring with the same gears so im pretty sure it should be able to handle it.

You'll want to use metal bushings. The plastic will work for a time, but in reality wear and tear will break them down and then...blam. New gears...piston...the works!

Well how would I get the bushing to fit? Im thinking of trying to hammer it in, but I don't want to ruin the bushing or the gearbox.

I got them in with some force :). Now I just have a quick question about the shimming, do I put the shims on one side of the gear, or both? I have a significant amount of rattle but my gears are spinning just fine.

Both sides, when your done there should be less then 1mm and no more than 2mm of side to side play.

to help keep your wires in, Just put the wires in place then take a small screw driver and set it ontop of the wire, and then set something heavy like a pair of plyers on the screw driver, holding the wires in place.
theres a slot in the back of the gear box so you can do this and leave the screw driver there holding the wires in place untill u put the other half in place then remove the screw driver.
