ARES M60

Postby Chefzilla » Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:16 am

So I'm looking for a bit of advice. I'm in the market for a new Pig and after a little fiasco with my A&K, I was looking at the ARES and was wondering if anyone has firsthand experience with them.

Also I really want to pick up the ARES LMG which Evike has a release date of this month so the big question is do you guys think that they'll be out by LOW 2 and should I just wait and get the LMG or is it worth it to get the M60?

The KAC LMG's been on pre order for a very, very long time and I doubt it'll be released soon... (but I hope I'm wrong). An Ares M60 wouldn't be much better than the A&K. I'd just get a G&P M249 but if you need an m60, then upgrading an A&K might be your only option depending on price range.

Edit: 1337th post! :D

i quite heartily beg to differ. i got a STAR Mk43 a while back for a steal and dropped a couple of ARES parts into it to fix the things that weren't functioning. now it's one of my favorite guns, out of over 40. at the bigger games where i run as a support gunner ill put 8,000-10,000 rounds through it no problem. in the year or two that i've had it its fired easily 150,000 rounds, and nothing has ever gone wrong on it. i would absolutely recommend the ARES M60s. the only downside is there is a lot of plastic, but that makes it nice and lightweight, and they mostly used it in places where structural strength isn't as necessary. if you end up with one, the only thing i would recommend is replacing the hopup bucking, the one in mine was awful and kept catching on BBs and folding over into the hopup which would jam the gun. haven't had a jam since i put a mad bull bucking in though.

I wouldn't count on it to be here in time. Evike updates their pre-order postings every month. It's been almost a year since info was released about it.

You're the first person I've heard that had something good to say about them. The box mag doesn't give you any trouble? Have you done anything to it besides putting in Ares internals and a madbull bucking?

the box i got on my gun was a STAR, since that's what it started as. so far all the internals are STAR as well, except for the hopup bucking. i replaced the box mag with the ARES one because the drive motor in the STAR magazine was garbage, and the power for the ARES mag has been wired directly into the gun so it winds the magazine when i pull the trigger. it means i have to dry fire for 20-30 rounds when its first hooked up to get the BBs into the gun, but after that i have 4,000 rounds on tap with no fuss or winding.

i was expecting the internals to blow up and then i was going to replace the gearbox with the ARES drop-in metal one, but its been running strong on a 375fps spring since i got it.

so far the only issues ive had since putting in the bucking and replacing the mag are the feed tray broke (its cosmetic anyways, so eh) and the hopup is a pain to adjust. once its adjusted though, it keeps its setting. i think ive set it maybe twice in a couple years. the trigger is starting to stick after prolonged firing now, but im pretty sure the contacts just need to be cleaned.
