Noob here. Battery question?

Postby svt121 » Fri Jan 07, 2011 12:32 pm

So I have a chance to pick up 3 AEGs very good price. First of all. Any info on quality of these pices. First is a TM SG 552. I know it is of fair quality. Second is a Special Weapons MP5 A5. Third is seen here.

I have no info on it so far.

Second thing is there are no batteries with them and I would like to try the out. I'm thinking of using my DeWalt 12V NiCad battery and jerry rigging just to test these guns. The question is. Will 12V be to much for them and do damage?

As a preemptive. Yes I know what tabs are +/-. Also if you open up the case of a DeWalt battery. It's just a bunch of C size cells.

Thanks.

While it would work, it would most definitely destroy the guns internals very quickly if stock. Get a 9.6v.

Don't have any smaller then 12V right now. Oh I know it will work. Just wondering if it will do instant damage. I've powered every thing from lil home projects with packs to jump starting my Chevy 3500 service van with my 18V packs. Just going to do this for a quick test.

Any ideas on make and quality of the AR? in the pic?

I advise not doing it unless you know exactly what you have inside your gun's GB, the voltage will destroy you motor if stock, if not, then your internals will be shredded if they are also stock.

The voltage is around the amount of a fully charged 3 cell 11.1v lipo, so if your not comfortable running that with your guns, then don't do it

If you run those guns on a 12 volt, you are very likely to cause mech box problems very quickly. the gun shown will take a large size 8.4 or 9.6. I have run large 8.4 in my several fixed stock m-16 clones. with the large you can go all day without running out of juice. Unless you know those guns will handle the increased voltage of lipos, steer clear. Give the folks up at ASONW (cornelius) a call, they will steer you in the correct direction.
applicable anecdote: team mate put a 11.6 lipo in a CA G-3 "just to see what it would be like". gears /piston were toast in less than 50 rounds. It sounded pretty cool (ROF) for those 50 rounds. Save your self the grief/expense & learn from our stupidity.

A 12v might actually break the fuses. But if nothing else is available it should be fine, just don't shoot very much. The AEG in the picture is an ICS M16, if you want to get rid of it, send a PM my way... And I'm pretty sure the "special weapons MP5" is also ICS made.

the M16 looks like an ICS. not knowing whats in the guns, i would avoid putting a 12v on them even to test.

So the got the 3 guns. The MP5 works. The M16 tries but not and the 552 has a broken body. But for the price I paid if I need some new parts for them I'm cool with it.

Thanks for the help. BTW I'm not planning on using my DeWalt Power tool battery as a permanent power source. It was the only thing I had on hand and only to determine if they worked and if to purchase them.

These are my first AEGs, I have no batteries and the seller had no batteries.

I have been told that using RC car batteries and chargers is not a good idea with airsoft. But if they are correct voltage and Mah. What's the problem?

P.S. Hello also. New to the sport, this forum and to the NW.

Thanks.

You need 8.4v or 9.6 volts. Mah ratings from 1300 to 5000. Connectors are probably mini tamiya for the Mp5 and Sig, and large tamiya for the M16. I'd get the M16 looked at by a professional if you can.
