6.01mm vs. 6.03mm

Postby Pancake » Tue Jan 18, 2011 1:09 pm

How much of a difference is there with a 6.01mm vs. 6.03mm in terms of grouping, performance, etc.

I want a DMR setup, currently have a Madbull 6.03. Wondering if I should make the jump. I have heard various arguments saying a tighter bore is worse, or better, and so on.

I went from a Madbull 6.03 to an ASGI 6.01. The difference between those specific 2 are very noticeable. The materials alone are different, and steel will be better than aluminum.

Oh goody this debate again!

There are plenty of different opinions out there especially when it comes to bolt/sniper rifles because each shot matters. Now I have heard many arguments for 6.05 being better than a 6.01. Reasons that support this one:

there is enough variation between bb brands that unless you are regularly feeding your rifle the same brand, or some super nice bb's like SGM .29's ($15 for 500 WHAT?! it's worth the price) then with a 6.01 the barrel may amplify the inconsistencies in the bb.

Here is a thread I started on arnies airsoft. They have some very experienced bolt turners there and it is worth making an account and checking it out.

In the end what ever you decided, the quality of the barrel will be the lead determining factor in accuracy. If you shell out a little more you will get a much higher quality barrel.

Edit: I'm going by Fred on arnies

There is a such a small difference the added price is nil.

What does have a difference is the outer diameter of the barrel and how the hop-up bucking sits in said barrel.
There's a difference between a person who has a screwdriver and a person who knows what they are doing.

Read my posts on the 2nd page. Decide for yourself, but many people who have used 6.03mm and 6.01mm barrels would choose the .01 every time.

Good post with valid numbers. I would like to see someone take a PDI 6.01 and compare it directly with PDI 6.05 in a well tuned bolt though using SGM .29's.

Bolt action barrels are different than AEG barrels. The amount of rounds the barrel will see is a lot less. The OP is looking for a DMR barrel (I read this as a barrel for an AEG).

Yeah its an AEG, I am wondering mainly because the 6.01 Madbull I ordered from Evike all of a sudden went out of stock. I am trying to figure out if I should just wait, or get something else with the money and stick with my 6.03. Although I am starting to think I should just hold off and get a PDI or edGI later on.

Well...don't buy from Evike. They have terrible website management and they rarely update whether an item actually out of stock.

I like my Madbull 6.01. A lot. I see noticeably better groupings from that 363mm barrel than I did with a 6.04 KM TN barrel with a length of 509mm. The important part is keeping it clean.
