Tight Bore Barrel Brands

Postby Bic 101 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 11:17 pm

I know that I have asked this question before, but I'm wondering if there is a siginificant difference between say a 509mm Precision Combat Technologies 6.01mm:

http://www.precisionairsoft.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=PCT509&CartID=1

and a 509mm Madbull 6.01mm:

http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_334&products_id=6605

Is it really worth the $20 for the Precision barrel?

Thanks for the info.

Cheers.

I would spend the extra money on it, but I'm a huge fan of Dees barrels (which is what precision barrels are).

Indeed. Madbull offered pretty good performace in an L96 I had, but be careful about what brand your stock barrel is. I think sometimes people purchase an "upgrade" tightbore that is actually poorer tolerances than their stock barrel, which are occassionally pretty nice. That's just my opinion, I don't have any data to support it. What I'm thinking is, the nicer quality barrels are worth the expense if you're after a tightbore.

What weapon are you looking at tinkering with? :)
I see you have a KWA M4? I also have one. I have held off on upgrading the barrel because I didn't feel like the costs of a nice one. So I would chase down that Dees, just my two cents.

Get one from AONW. I bought my Madbull 6.03mm there for $15 less than the one on GI and less than half the cost of the other.

While I support AONW, there really is no comparison between a Madbull barrel, and a Dee's barrel (PCT).

Switchback, stop giving advice on things you know nothing about.

I've had great results from the 5 Madbull barrels I've owned, but I can't speak for Dee's. I recommend a Madbull 6.03 + Firefly bucking. Don't have to worry about jamming, but you'll still get amazing performance. I get a max spread (with decent BB's) of 18" at 65 yards, and can hit a 2" post at under 40 yards every time. Most of the variance though comes from BB quality. The BB's I use in-game when I'm rolling as a DM fly like a laser, whereas the BB's I use for testing builds and projects etc. tend to give the 18" spread as mentioned before.

Actually many of the most respected guys on Airsoft Mechanics are saying that a LOOSER bore barrel is more accurate. I believe the theory has something to do with the cushion of air around the bb offerinng greater stabilization.

I have had excellent results with my PDI 6.05 barrels.

Food for thought.

I've been hearing that a lot recently. Can you link me to the threads/articles stating these findings?

Dees barrels are polished if I'm not mistaken. Madbulls aren't.

I might be getting this confused with the old PDI GBBR barrels. But I have run both and I was more than pleased with my Dee's. Either way I reccomend shelling out the extra 20 for a proven product, the QC is way better and you wont have to worry about getting a lemon.

Read my post towards the bottom.

As far as tighter barrels jamming more frequently, I've never had a jam in my 6.02mm PSI barrel, nor in my madbull 6.03 or my madbull 6.01. The key is to use good bb's. Using shitty bb's will raise the risk of a jam in any gun. G&G, KSC, Airsplat Bio's, and any other number of bb's get run through a hundred different types of barrels at games, and never have issues. Usually jams are caused by other factors, not the ID of the barrel.

Now, taking out factors such as air seal, hop up unit, and hop up bucking, a tighter barrel will *mathematically* have better accuracy, due to less area for the bb to bounce around inside a barrel. Adding in the factors such as air seal, hop up, compression, bb diameter, crowning, and a number of other factors, than you get a situation where a 6.05 could yield better results than a 6.01. However, most of the people who run 6.01 barrels have dealt with those other factors, and will than see the expected results that a 6.01 can yield.

I'm hoping in the next 6 months or so to get my hands on a EDGI 5.98mm barrel to test in either my AEG or my bolt (still not sure which).
