Bucking install question

Postby ogrejager » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:21 pm

The details:

KWA M16 with stock internals. Bucking ripped. Purchased a Madbull blue bucking. While doing so, decided to install a Seagreen special TBB.

The problem:

Bucking goes just fine onto the barrel. Pretty easily, in fact. When the barrel/bucking combo is slipped into the hopup unit, it's quite tight. Very tight. When the bucking and barrel are fully seated, the bucking appears to have stretched (evenly) to extend out into the space where the c-clip retainer goes. This, obviously, causes problems as the retaining clip won't fit. A phone call to a buddy says he's had this problem before, too.

I've contemplated just cutting the extra with an exacto knife, but would rather hear of a good "fix" to keep it from stretching. Yes, I've tried silicon oil on the bucking.

trimming the bucking isn't the ideal solution, but it should work. ive had to do that in the past on guns. KWAs have very tight tolerances, for it to work just right you might have to just get a KWA bucking. they are on par with the mad bull ones, if i recall.

Jesse at AONW recommended the Madbull. I trust him. He said they were "tight to install."

I've trimmed buckings for most of my 6.01 installations. The rubber always stretches with those barrels.

Cool. Consider it trimmed.

It's raining now, so I'm waiting on much testing.

Ogrejager, Lube your hop-up bucking before trying to cut it. This will help when installing and removing a tight fitting bucking.

Picture below shows the types of silicone lube I keep around. From right to left,
Silicone spray - This stuff is sold at all hardware stores and works great for cleaning barrels, but because it’s spray does not adhear very good making it so great for hop-up buckings.

100% Silicone Oil – This is somewhat hard to get, and most hardware stores don’t carry it. It’s a little thicker than the Silicone spray although not by much. I use it for lubing valve O-rings on gas guns and coating Teflon tape (AKA plumbers tape) because it does not have any additives and is 100% pure Silicone Oil.

Silicone vacuum grease –This stuff is great due to its high viscosity and good sealing and lubricating ability. I use this on all hop-up buckings and air nozzles. It’s available on ebay for around $30 with free shipping for a 5.3 oz tube. Also available in smaller amounts for around $10-$15.

Just apply a little bit. As you can see it’s very viscous.

And smear it around to coat. You should have a very thin layer.

Some buckings are longer than others, I've trimmed quite a few bucking in the past it does not effect anything as long as you "trim" it not cut off half of it.
Be sure to take the bucking off of the barrel before trimming it. And remember measure twice, cut once. ;)
