M4 not shooting properly, any ideas why?

Postby Slowgun » Fri Dec 24, 2010 2:08 pm

Ok so heres the deal. I recharged all of my batteries about a month ago after a game, and haven't airsofted since. But I shoot my gun about once a week to try and keep it fresh, and not let it sit too long. I shoot about 100 bbs through it each time (This was the fourth time since I recharged). But today, when I went to shoot it, I heard a *whir* like it was about to shoot, and then nothing. And after that, all it would do is click when I pulled the trigger. I find it hard to believe that the battery is dead, because I unplug it after each time. So I put in a different battery, and it shot on fully and semi for about 50 rds, and then the clicking resumed. This has happened to me before, and what seems to help it is when I unplug the two connectors behind the fuse, and then plug them back in. And if that doesnt work, sometimes I just have to let it sit for a while, and then it shoots fine. Does anyone know what the cause of this could be? Its a Classic Army M15A4 by the way. Thanks in advance!

Try a freshly charged battery. It's not good to use anything but a fresh battery when shooting. You can lock up the gearbox, cause the gun to stop in mid stroke which will weaken the spring, or put to much stress on the piston teeth.

Regarding your batteries....Nicads loose 7-10% of their total charge per week, so just sitting a month....do the math. I do not know enough about Lipos to say what their discharge rate is. Get a good multi meter, it will help you manage your batteries .

Hi there, just also to point out, 7-10% a week is under ideal conditions. There are some batteries, regardless of the type (nicad, lipo, nimh,) that just lose power much faster. How does it work off a fresh charge? Hopefully it's just that, because from the other symptoms you've told me it seems like there may be a continuity break somewhere in the wiring. Which would be unfortunate since CA guns are so nice.

Ok sorry to necro post here, but I'm still having problems. I know the battery isnt dead because I just charged it for an hour. But when I went to shoot my m4, it shot about 10rds and then started clicking again. So now I KNOW there is something else wrong with it. It works perfect sometimes and then other times it just quits. If there is a continuity break somewhere in the wiring, how would I find and fix it, and am I qualified to fix it? I have never opened up my gun before...

If it was FULLY charged, then it is something wrong with your gun. Is there some resistance when you pull the trigger, and then the click?

If you haven't opened any gun then you are not ready to open your CA. However, checking on the motor wire connections can be easy (and is fairly safe). Also, look in your fuse box to see if it is damaged or improperly inserted.

Could be a problem with the trigger set (contact plates) or motor.

I'm out of my depth now. Maybe somebody from AONW could help you; they have always been very generous with advice.

If you can open the gearbox, you might want to look at the trigger contacts as stated. If not then take it to AONW. They will do you right
