Installing free float RIS

Postby Blitzkreig » Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:33 pm

I recently acquired this RIS unit and I need help installing it onto a KWA KM4 A1 2GX. My main problem, of course, is removing the triangle sight. Is there any special method of getting the retaining pins out? Pics coming soon.

I just tap the pins out on a hard surface. Triangle sights should slide right off and the retaining ring after. Then just remove the delta ring (if the kit comes with a barrel nut) and you'll be good to go

I cant imagine the KWA having them, but my A&K had fake pins, and torx screws on the left side, just something to look for in case.

I found a thread on KWA's website. Unfortunately I was pounding on the pins so hard that I bent the front retaining ring for the hand guards. Also, I wanted to see what it would look like so I put it on my broken E1 M4, and now the barrel nut is stuck on. Why does something have to break every time I try to airsmith! I will just take it to AONW.

The pins should have come out with not a whole lot of effort..

That is how I felt at first... Still do sometimes. But eventually things become more natural.

Final step! I need to get the delta ring off. I tried using the handguards, but it wouldn't work. Should I take it to a gun store and see if I can borrow their AR 15 wrench? Also, another problem has presented itself. I want to keep it wired to the front, but the wires will not fit through the barrel nut. I know I can disconnect the wires, slip the nut on (when I get the delta ring off!) and then plug the wires back in. But I don't know where the wires disconnect, as there is shrink wrap everywhere.

I found out I can get it small enough by detaching the fuse wires, but I could only get the one in the black casing, not the other one.
