CA LWRC M6 mag release disassembly

Postby Regular Guy » Thu Mar 17, 2011 6:26 pm

I need some assistance on how to remove the mag release on the CA LWRC M6. I need to get into the gearbox and replace some internal parts (piston, piston head, and gears) and instal a mosfet.

Here is the photo of the mag release (where is the hex screw?);

Thanks!

have you tried pressing the catch in alllll the way and just unscrewing the arm (make sure it can swing over the ridge of the reciever)? perhaps there is no hex screw on the LWRC, and it just disassembles like all GBBRs

@Riddick, I will try again and hope not to brake the mag release. My fingers are a bit sore from pushing it all the way and trying to unscrew it the other way but the lip that locks on to the magazine catches on the body/lower receiver. Some weird design eh?

@Miracle, the gearbox has a circle mount where the mag release goes through and without removing the mag release you won't be able to remove the gearbox.

Thanks again!

Those are probably the most annoying mag releases to disassemble. As mentioned, push it in all the way and unscrew the arm from the other side. Don't get too attached to the paint finish. Unless you've got some serious skills, it'll probably get a scratch or two.

Tried it again, no go. The spring makes it difficult to take the lip out and over the ridges of the lower receiver. There is definitely a screw in the button after looking over the manual. I may have to use a power drill and replace the screw whenever I have the time... BAH!

Try remove the bolt-catch. That might make it a bit easier. One CA M4 I disassembled required quite a bit of effort to remove the mag-catch and left a pretty little scratch on the receiver.

IIRC the LWRC series uses a RS style mag catch. Take a 223 round (or any other rifle round), push the button in as far as possible, then turn the mag catch arm counter clockwise
