Yes...you get it. It requires more finesse and skill to take someone out with 2-3 bb's than with 40-50.
I am a DM. I run a highly modified Classic Army M4 DMR. I want long range, good accuracy, and the ability to use my platform in an observation mode. I also want it to look like a DMR. Follows the mods done to this rifle by myself and others:
Starting with a Classic Army M4 (designated M15A4)
Performance Mods:
-M16 Length 6.02mm TBB
-Retains CA Hopup with blue bucking and H-Nub installed
-CA Hi-Torque Motor
-Lepers 3-9X Illuminated Rifle Scope
Visual and Ergonomic Mods:
-Full Stock
-Daniel Defense 16' RIS
-RUG Front Hand grip
-JBU 8.25" Suppressor (extends the length to accommodate the TBB)
-PSG1 Custom Ergonomic Grip
-2 point sling
I recently had opportunity to do some range work with this rifle at Sniperzden on a measured 230 ft range. The performance mods, in combination with careful hopup adjustment, have gotten this rifle shooting out to 215ft with a 6-8 inch accuracy spread standing unsopported.
To compare: The standard M4 carbines in our inventory (there are five) are about 175-195ft with about a 9-11 inch spread.
I have also spent a fair amount of time dialing my scope in. Not to the accuracy a real steel marksman would...in airsoft I am not concerned with windage and MOA etc. I am only concerned when I put the reticle on target the bb's go predictably the same place every time, and I can see them through the scope.
Ergonomically I want my rifle to be comfortable...I will spend triple the time sitting looking through my scope as a DM than when I am rolling as a rifleman with a carbine. It's a heavier rifle than a standard M4, so it's important it's well balanced and the grips are comfortable with good support. The two point sling, I simply throw it over my shoulder.
Finally, airsoft is as much about the loadout/impression for me as the playing. Our team emulates Marine Corp. as well as various Special Forces loadouts, and I want my weapons platform to look the part.
Longass answer to a simple question. Hope this helps.
