Malfuntion with VFC SCAR SSR

Postby DevilPup93 » Sun Apr 03, 2011 6:31 pm

Just this last Friday I took my new VFC SCAR SSR out for a skirmish and after fireing a few rounds the gun jammed on me. The motor wasn't turning but current was being supplied. Today I took the SSR apart and saw that the screw that goes into the back of the gearbox, came dislodged and jammed behind the piston. I put the screw back where it belongs, took a few more shots and it dislodged again...

Now my question is has anyone else had a problem similar to this? And what do you suggest I do to fix this.

The conclusions I came to is that:

Either I keep the screw out of the back of the gearbox and run it that way.

OR

Put some lock-tight on the screw to keep it in place.

Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if its just the screw that keeps falling out, try loctite blue, you can remove it later if needed.

Yea, it's just that screw. Thanks for the advice, I was just worried that if I used lock-tight and had to take apart a gearbox later on that I would run into problems with that screw.

So just lock-tight blue or is there a specific brand or something?

Loctitie blue is the strength you want, I use it on real guns, scopes etc.... it can be undone later. The red is pretty permanent, any auto parts store has it. it comes in liquid ( recommended), paste, or tape like pipe tape. use it sparingly, it will gunk up interiors pretty badly. just put it on the thread portion of the screw and turn it in. wipe off any excess. Loctite is a trade name.

I used the blue loctite to put the screw into the rear of the gearbox and after letting it set, the screw just fell out again...I'm guessing the screw is stripped so what I did (and don't bash me on it), I just put a little super flue on the head of the screw (not the threads) to keep it secure to the gearbox.

So as far as that it's fixed and working, thanks for the advice. I'm starting to love superglue, I just bought a Mk16 that came cracked with a cracked hinge, called Airsoftoutletnw to see what they could do (and were very helpful) I just decided on fixing it myself, the glue now isn't even letting the crack get bigger or pull apart.

Problem solved...... It is a sad fact that many of the interior ( and exterior) parts are made with substandard materials that do not stand up well. I would love to have the machinist ability to make gearboxes etc with high quality material that would last, and market them. Alas, I'm relegated to a mill file and dremel tools. Re the super glue, its awesome stuff, its kind of like loctite red. The modern version of baling wire or duct tape.....fixes any thing! For any adhesive agent to work there must be a reasonable amount of structural integrity in the items to be bonded. Super glue or epoxy (a binary) will often fill the gaps in damaged / stripped threads. In bigger items, you can frequently use a tap / die to make the hole the next size bigger. Anyway, glad you got it fixed. No Haterade here, do what works!.
