I am in the market for an M14 variant and was looking at a scout but while im in the market I wanted to know if the flash hider on the SOC 16's was removable and threaded?

Be careful; if you remove the flashider, the front sight comes off with it :P

Mine does have threads, and its an AGM. From old reviews, I read that at CYMA Soc 16's dont have threaded barrels. Newer versions might, but I'm not sure. Despite this, I can't say that I'd recommend the AGM version.

Also, the front sight would indeed slide off. I bought one of those things that you tighten with a screwdriver to close it up... I can't remember what they're called... but its one of these: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3554/338 ... 88674e.jpg

Anyway, I use a really small one of those where the flash hider used to be, and put a mock suppressor on the threads to cover the barrel.
This is my signature. Hear it roar.

I don't think the old E1 soc16s had threads either, been awhile since I owned it. Couldn't tell you if they have changed.

Thanks for the info, I will probably go with A CA scout. As long as the thread is open, are there any known problems with CA M14's?

I've had my CA Scout since they came out. Yes, the flashhider is removable with the standard -14mm threading. All I've done to mine internally was change the bucking, add a TBB and upgrade the spring. It has been my most reliable gun.
