MAG Sig Midcap Feeding Problems

Postby -Shifty- » Wed Apr 06, 2011 9:40 pm

I have a friend who just purchased an ICS Sig 551 and some MAG brand midcaps for it, and the mags are having feeding problems. I had heard previously that these specific mags have had feeding problems with the ICS, and I passed the information along to him. Unfortunately he didn't listen...

So for any Sig owners who have run into this problem, any help would be fantastic. Thanks.

Did he shave the top of the mags/ the mag catch area to make sure they lock in correctly? I had to do that (same setup) to get them to run correctly. I also lubed them up and taped the bottom to make sure the stopper didn't go flying out.

He hasn't done anything yet (he's a Chinese exchange student and is feeling pretty lost). Could you PM me a picture and a brief idea of what you did so I can get it set for him?

For shaving the mags, here's some pictures of what I did. I don't have an unmodded mag to compare it to, but it gives you an idea. I would start by shaving the top down a bit, then the mag catch area, then back to the top etc. until they seat just fine. I found it was best to alternate the areas I was shaving to ensure a snug fit. One mag I went whole hog on shaving the top which made it a bit loose.
