half cycling issue

Postby McNair » Wed Jun 27, 2012 10:45 am

So,
I took apart my gearbox to replace the gears. Put it back together. Had plenty of issues of it not cycling at all.
Finally after many time taking it apart and putting it back together I got the gun to half cycle.
I then changed the motor and I got it to fully cycle a few times randomly
Now with each trigger pull, it will pull the piston a quarter way back. After like 4 trigger pulls, the piston slams forward.
I've adjusted the motor height back and forth and it's the same. I can actually take it all the way out and it's exactly the same.
I know I'm bleeding something up as I've not messed around with a gearbox since like 2001.

The gears spin fine with the gearbox open and closed. I've used multiple batteries and the same outcome.

Check that the springs for the cutoff lever, the trigger block, and all those bits are lined up and still in there. Sounds like it may be cutting off your power like a semi auto mode, but just early.

Or it's just a custom dmr platform now.

Give it to me, I will fix it

Also, stick your stock gears back in and see if it cycles.

They are stock gears.
The sector gear broke a tooth, so I put the stock gears out of another stock gear box.

Are you sure the gear ratio is correct? And did you shim it?

Ratio as in timing? I don't speak gearbox lingo.
I took the stock gears from one V2 gearbox and replaced the stock gears in the other V2 gearbox.
Not just the one gear that was broken, the whole set.

I put the shims on it and it spins smoothly or whatever. I don't know. The shit spins if I tighten it all down without th srping in there. I can spin it.
I'm just going to have to hand it off to someone. I just can't afford to drive an hour to drop it off, drive home then drive back again. That's like $30 alone in gas.

Yea if i got time i'm going to have a good collection of tools with me. Just fixed lukens gun which had a similar problem. It was the trigger block cutting of the electricity because of common wear. It's an easy fix, usually.

The only thing this gearbox had an issue with before was when you fired on full auto and let off the trigger, it would pull the piston half way back so when you shot again, you'd shoot out like 3 bbs.
Otherwise it had no issues.
So all I've changed is the gears and the spring. I even put the original tappet plate back in because we believed that was the issue with full auto.

It's just a matter of stuff getting lined up just right. I bet if you took it apart and put it back together another 8 or 9 times you'll get it right. That's what i had to do on my first few gearbox's.
