Just for fun

Postby bye » Fri Jul 20, 2012 2:09 pm

Hey all, I'm just going to put it out there, I recently took my ICS PCR-97 M4 with wires running to an external battery in a PEQ and dunked it fully in the water. I then proceeded to remove the gun from the water and fire. While the shots were inaccurate from water in the barrel, the gun cycled just fine. I emptied about 15 rounds doing this. Then I figured, what the hell, and dunked it again and fired while under water. Air came out. Gun cycled.

Point being, dropping your AEG in a pond or even lake definitely does not mean you're out of the game. Sure, you need clean and remove the water from the GB/barrel once home, but it'll still put rounds down range. I figured that after 10 shots, bbs were flying far enough to at least suppress someone. For anyone who's suicide enough to go SEAL at a game, chances are, if you can do it, so can your gun.

/of my totally random post.
Bye.

In the short term, sure it still works. In the long term, you have probably ruined that gun. Water likes to get inside things and not come out again, and will slowly corrode anything it can inside your gun, especially electrical connections with power running through them.

I disassembled everything thoroughly, there are no worries. Besides, it's kinda my back up. Interesting vid, what a copycat. lol

Wiring is my only concern, albeit, a small one as it's not steel/iron so it shouldn't rust. It's a 2-piece too, so water drains rapidly. I may spray some silicone SPRAY to put an anti-corrosive layer in. But yeah, I'm pretty confident it's fine. It sat out in 90* weather right after too.

The funny thing is, that guy did it back in '09.

I would laugh as soon as it takes a shit because the motor was damaged, and whatever other electrical components get fried too.

In short, don't come back crying as to why your back-up/loaner isn't working anymore.

I watched Ash from SOTA take an impromptu swim in the river at SniperzDen during a game once. His gun worked fine (albeit his accuracy sucked afterwards). He took it home, stripped it and cleaned it properly, and used it for many more games (if he isn't still using it).

Point being, you aren't the first person to get a gun wet. Anyone who was up on Mary's Peak in 2007/2008 for that game knows what I'm talking about...

Ah, alright. Still, thought I'd share the experience. I've seen a few threads on various websites asking whether there was any imminent danger from rain to puddles and creeks. Thought I'd test the theory for myself.

@Hamster, I'm actually pretty good friends with a guy who fixes airsoft guns locally, so no worries there. He taught me a few things too. But thanks for the concern.
