CA EBBs

Postby Tankwitch » Fri Aug 24, 2012 5:38 pm

After an annoying search through the endless AR's that are available I have settled on a Classic Army that features electric blowback. After a few google searches and finding very little I ask you AP. How reliable is the EBB function on CA gearboxes? Should I just disable it from the get go to avoid stripping the piston?
I'm a major chairsofter, sorry about that.

It's not recoil if that's what your thinking, it's only the "bolt" that moves back and forth. Other then that it's pretty much your average Classic Army M4. My friend had one and it was fine until he began to modify the internals and then it began to act up on him.

The EBB function won't really affect reliability, so really it's up to you if you want to disable it or not.

It actually depends on the gun. The first gen EBBs are basically just a CA M4 with a little piece of metal that moves. I have one of the CA LWRC M6 rifles, and those actually do move around a little bit. It's not even as much recoil as a .22, but it is noticeable. The EBB mechanism on the LWRCs seems to be very solid and reliable as well. The guns aren't cheap, but they are VERY well made.

I was thinking of getting one of the CA ECR 4 model of AR. From what I can tell it has similar EBB to the LWRC. The question I have on how well made they are is who do they compare to? TM? RS? G&G?

IMO the new TM guns can't be compared to other AEGs, while expensive, they're very good performance wise and reliability, downside is they're $500+ Haha.

I own close to 50 high end AEGs. The CA LWRC is better than most of them. Cant speak to the level of the ECR, but if it's anything like the LWRC it will be fantastic.

The Tango Down ECR4 is the exact same gearbox and blowback mechanism as the LWRC models. They don't have 'recoil' per se, but the bolt is heavy enough that it does give the gun a bit of rattle, or feedback.

Quality wise, the LWRC/Tango Down is one of the best series CA makes.

Generally, there's only two things that break: One is the charging handle. This is usually caused by firing the AEG with the charging handle unlatched, or by pressing the bolt stop with the charging handle unlatched. Make sure the charging handle is locked in place before pressing the bolt stop or firing the AEG. The second part is the hook between the piston and the bolt. You can't really prevent this, but AONW has the part if yours ever wears out.
