KWA SR12 drops some and hooks left!

Postby Cyclops » Mon Sep 03, 2012 2:12 am

Bought this gun used about 2 months ago and put about 10k Bbs thru it. Last few times out playing I have noticed that the hop up doesn't catch every Bb and they drop early. If they do go beyond 150ft it hooks to the left pretty hard. I have recently got into this hobby so I know VERY little about how these guns and learning as I go. I'm thinking that I'm going to have to replace the spring, barrel, and do something to the hop up piece which I know nothing about. Any info on what to work on or how to do it will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I thinks torn hopup bucking. Start with replacing the cheap part, and swab your barrel to clear it of schmutz.

It's probobly the hop up bucking, this is the piece the pushes into the barrel the causes the bb to have backspin when it comes out greatly enducing its range. The hook left could be caused by KWA 2Gx bucking, it has 2 points of contact on the bb not just 1 so if one side is off slightly it can cause a hook. I don' know much about internals so if im wrong or someone thinks im wrong feel free to post.

You say cheap parts so what a ball park price range of some of the items I may need? Just trying to work it in my budget and do as much as I can since I bought this gun used.

Madbull red buckings are two for around $12. Should be a lifetime supply.

As Panzerfaust said, clean barrel.
Someone had a SR12 that had issues like this. I took the barrel out and noticed a build up of crap at the end of it. Took a bore brush and cleaned it all out. Made a huge difference.

When did you buy yours? I got one the same as you (after the gen.2 flat black came out) but it was acting like the hopup was not working or they would fly left or right. I striped down the hopup and found that the barrel slot for the hopup bucking and nub to enter the barrel was only 3 or four millimeters across. It would only take .20s (and they were inaccurate as hell) everything else dropped like lead, no hop. So I filed it out to the standard width to match another barrel that I had that just so happened to be the sam length as the KWA's. Now I can use .30s in it and it shoots like a KWA.

Although crappy bbs or a dirty barrel can give the same result of course. I have run into two other KWA SR's that have problems. One refused to feed on semi (the last Gridlock at R&R)and the other's upper receiver snapped in half in the middle of the game a few months after the guy bought it (Lord Of War 4).

Hope this helps! I hate to see those replicas with problems.

I bought mine on craigslist about 2 or 3 months ago. It was used but in fairly good shape. I figured that since I'm having the trouble and it is used I gave mine to Riddick at BlackWater Tactical to replace the barrel and hop up. That way I know what was put in there and slowly start replacing other items on the gun as things start to act up on me.
