KWA CQR MOD1 barrel

Postby Ramer » Thu Feb 07, 2013 10:14 pm

Does anybody know the width of the CQR MOD 1's inner barrel? I have searched the internet a bit but can't seem to find it. Maybe I'm blind. I basically just need to figure out if it would be worth it to get a tightbore barrel for the rifle. The only upgrade I have purchased so far is a better battery.

It hasn't arrived at my house yet, since I just purchased it yesterday. I'm freaking dying of anticipation. If anybody has suggestions for other upgrades, I'm an open book.

I'm pretty sure its a 6.05mm inner barrel. All kwa's that I have seen come with a stock 6.05mm inner barrel. Here's a link: http://kwausa.com/2012-09-20-14-43-07/kwa-cqr-mod-1

Yes , 6.05 is correct. I have a mod1 and a mod 2, I have put 6.01 TBB in each . They do provide a fps upgrade and a slight accuracy increase . The best mod I have seen/done is replacing the ported cylinder with a proper capacity cylinder and re-wire to rear. These are great guns, And with a name of KWA you cant go wrong.

Be careful with it, I kinda liked the KWA plastic-metal hybrid idea so much that I bought one.

However after just one day of play the receiver on my KWA Mod2 is starting to show hairline cracks around the rear receiver pin. It now seems obvious to me that pinning a metal receiver to a plastic one is asking for trouble, when the plastic receiver flexes, the metal upper can't, so the plastic cracks.

As for a tightbore, even my CQB length Mod2 is pretty accurate at a moderate range. I've never been able to justify tightbore barrels, as usually accuracy issues are caused by the hop up unit. Just a thought.

The plastic lower receivers from KWA are hit or miss. My KWA CQR has been through the ringer and it's only finally showing the two hairline cracks you've mentioned. I've taken it to two day long mil-sim scenarios, crawling through creeks (fully submerged at points), and regular games once or twice a month. I expected it to fail much sooner. The cracks don't inhibit the function of the weapon, but they're still there.

I purchased it back in September.

But, on the other hand, many of the CQRs purchased at a local airsoft store have been returned. They all have cracks in the exact same spot, the front receiver pin.

I didn't buy them from a local shop, so I dunno. Plastic is plastic.

I appreciate all the feedback, guys.

I've heard nothing but mostly wondrous things about the CQRs, but I'm glad that those hairline cracks were mentioned. I'll be sure to keep my eye on that. With luck, I'll be coming to my first event with AP next month, so I'll be able to put it to a weekend-long test.

With the 6.01, what is your FPS averaging at?

Anybody know how close the 395mm inner barrel comes to the end of the MOD 1? I found a decent deal on a 407 x 6.01 tightbore, and want to make sure I won't have like a quarter inch of inner barrel sticking out of the end.

Well I have a CQR Mod 2 and I've been to hell and back with it and I haven't cracked any part of the lower receiver. Maybe just a coincidence.

I have quite litteraly lost my CQR MOD 2 out of the back of my dad's truck. The only part that broke was my flash hider. But some hot glue and JB weld later.... she stayed put

My CQR mod 1 with TBB 6.01 shot 360 fps with 2.0 BB's ... From there I replaced the cylinder with a non ported from G&G. This change boosted the Fps to 403. Now that the spring has settled it shoots 398 consistently and at the rate of 23-24 per second with 11.1 battery.

Hey not bad. I plan on getting a 6.01 TBB relatively soon, and I might get that cylinder, too. The FPS upgrade is pretty much perfect. I won't be able to use the weapon indoors, but I was going to get a SMG for close-quarters, anyway.

If you want to upgrade anything I suggest just the barrel and maybe bucking.
Don't open the gearbox unless you have too. Unless you know how to do it or have someone do it for you for free, it can get expensive for neglible gain... Barrel will deffinately help.

Don't open the GB? Afraid of the KWA fairies from escaping are we? I kid, I kid. I've opened and closed the GB a ton of times. It's actually the first GB I've ever done any real tech work with (I started with a V7, but that doesn't count). I have changed out the cylinder, did a proper shim job, adjusted AOE with a 1/4" sorbo, upgraded the piston O-ring, and wired a MOSFET to the rear. It's still performing admirably. Edit: I should probably add, with Deans + a 9.6v NiMH it's pushing ~23 RPS.

Edit x2: Here's a picture of the hairline crack. It's exactly the same on the other side. I actually had no idea it was there until I read this thread.
