CyberGun Famas and other stuff

Postby FullBit » Sun Feb 08, 2015 2:34 pm

I recently bought my first real AEG the CyberGun Famas. Before you guys go "That gun sucks and all the Famas' are terrible" I know they are not "grea" guns but I have always loved the weapon and I am dedicated to making mine a real competitor on the field. I am looking around for general help in what needs to be worked on (from previous peoples experiences) and what is a relatively acceptable final result for real MilSim and competitive play overall performance wise. I am not a what I would consider a strict budget and have seen a few videos regarding things like barrels and basic motor mods and parts swaps. Currently the AEG is completely stock as until I know what I am going to be doing I don't want to tinker with anything for "fun" never even pulled a screw yet.

As a side note I am moving back to Oregon here soon (next few weeks) and am looking for a fun place and cool people to get out and Sim or Play with near or not too far from the Salem area. Thanks for checking in here and I look forward to discussing things around here in the future!

Ok, not to be the first naysayer but I never knew cybergun made AEGs. That being said I think the FAMAS doesn't look that bad. It's a bullpup so you're got a longer barrel than most people cause most of us have M4s or other AEGs that are about 14.5" long. Good luck making it a competitor though! Be sure to post after pics so we can see!

I personally would have done research before buying a good or decent AEG.

From having a cheapo Cybergun AK that I used for a cheap alternative prop-gun, I'd have to say you're going to regret that buy.

Sure Cybergun has good brands they own, but they aren't good starting, or even marketable guns that can even be used to compete with players that have upgraded their resources heavily. The gun will work for the first few days, but slowly, you'll get problems with it.

I would return it, go to an actual airsoft retailer, and get a G&G or KWA. Not some cheap $80.00 Famas from Dicks.

You ever wonder why they put all those "fancy" cheap-ass gizmo's on the gun when they market it?

I guarantee you it isn't for the benefits. They market these type of Wal-mart guns to kids, if they see a low-tier gun, with a laser, scope or a vertical grip, they'll most likely buy it.

It looks cool from afar, but when you tell people you bought it from a sporting store, they'll laugh and walk away.

I'm sorry if I'm being really harsh, but I'm saving you from getting laughed at. Just return it, make up some bogus excuse and return it and get your money back, save alittle, and go buy a sportline AEG.

But then again, if you want a good project, and are willing to shill out the money to upgrade EVERYTHING in the gun, then go ahead, it would be a cool project to attempt, I wish you luck in your attempt to upgrade the gun, and after it's all complete post some pictures on here.

Just don't bring that stock Famas to a "sim" game. :)

If you want good reliable information, I would suggest sepaking to Junto. I know he has his own obsession with the Famas, has owned several over the years, and has been a respected memeber of this comunity long enough that his words hold some weight. Plus he works out at Airsoft Outlet NW so he will have great recomendations on product. You can also (use the search function) or click the link below and see what he has had to say about the Famas. It's short with only 11 posts, but may give you some information about what you might be getting youself into. http://airsoftpacific.com/search.php?keywords=Famas&terms=all&author=Junto&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
I have no experince with the Famas, but do know that cyberguns can be very hit and miss on their product, sometimes having very little inside of them that is truely upgradable. But like I said read what Junto has said about them here (aka do your research) and them maybe PM him or give him a call at outlet, and pick his brain.
Good luck.
